EMT Sheffield to St Pancras

I have noticed that the 08:55 St Pancras to Sheffield and the 11:27 Sheffield to St Pancras are formed by a 2 class 222 units, I don't recall seeing any other service on this route, formed of 2 units.

It may be me and I have missed something.

Anybody any ideas

Cant comment on the sheffield route but the Nottingham route does. The service from Lincoln doubles up here.

It arrives northbound into Sheffield as a double unit and departs as such.

I got one a couple of weeks ago that would normally be a single 7-car 222 but instead it was two shorter ones coupled together. Maybe one (or more) of the 7 car units is out of action, in which case it's jolly decent of them to run a double set rather than just substituting a single 4 or 5 car set and hoping nobody will notice...

This seems a regular working.

Looking back at my recent photo's I have noticed that the fast service each hour from Sheffield is formed by 7 coach units and the slower service each hour is a 5 car unit (the service that departs from platform 7 at Sheffield)

The 11:27 fast service seems to be formed by x2 5 coach units.

I once saw a double 4-car in place of a 7-car on a Sheffield-London, but I think this is relatively rare!

I caught the 11:27 back in August and it was a 2x 5 car 222, it certainly needed to be, both portions were packed hock:

Possibly a silly question - if a peak service is due to run as a 7-Car Meridian and ends up running as a 4-car Pioneer, is EMT penalised in any way?
