EMT red dot days

Hi all firsty im sure there was a topic about these red dot days but i cant find them. Right i know these tickets can only be purchased from the station which there advertised from, the one im looking to do is Nottingham on the 30th. My question is can i purchase the ticket ticket in preperation for the 30th or are the tickets only sold on the day? Second question is, must your first train start from Nottingham as i wanted to start from my local oakham on the 06:11 to london (there is actually a train from nottingham calling at oakham at 05:44 so would be possible to connect anyway)

Yes you can buy it in advance from Nottm and start where you like on the day.
I'm going to do both days. I'll get a £7.90 single from Mansfield to Sheffield tomorrow morning to get my red dot ticket and probably go over to Liverpool. Then buy my Thursday ticket at Nottm on the way back to Mansfield. Then do a trip to london and back from Mansfield on Thursday.

Wednesday to Friday

Trains to London St Pancras are retimed after Bedford calling at stations a few minutes later.

Trains from London St Pancras are not affected.

The following train alterations will also apply:

04:40 Leicester to London St Pancras will be retimed to leave at the earlier time of 04:01.

23:15 (Wednesday and Thursday) London St Pancras to Derby will be retimed after Wellingborough calling at stations up to 38 minutes later. Replacement road transport will run between Kettering and Market Harborough and between Market Harborough and Leicester.

00:15 (Thursday and Friday) London St Pancras to Leicester will be retimed after Wellingborough calling at stations up to 28 minutes later

Thats good news i will pop over to Nottingham tomorow to get my ticket then. Certainly the 06:11 from oakham to london then which is a bonus and means i can get cracking straight away

Going to Sheffield this morning (Setting off so early i.e. in 2 hours I'm not bothering with sleep!), get my Red Dot Day ticket then up to London for a look round.

23:15 EMT from London to Nottingham arriving shortly after 2am, luckily I have a couple of relatives in the area who I can crash out at for a few hours then up bright and early to get my second Red Dot Day ticket

Unless I get told otherwise in the next few hours, I'm fine to use the Red Dot Day ticket on the 23:15 as long as I don't get off before Nottingham!

I'm definately going on the 06:11 from Oakham (assuming it runs) down to london then a quick trip maybe on the javelins then Hst back to nottingham or perhaps up to sheffield.

Also, I think 8 minutes to get of train, get up stairs, get in queue, get to the front, ticket to be issued, check platform, go down stairs, get on train is a tiny bit optimistic, don't you? It will probably be quite busy as well

Eight minutes should be more than enough to pick up a ticket, i'm just wondering if my XC was late would the guard be allowed to issue a ticket on board or is he under orders to Penalty fare me etc.

Also what train are you getting off? As some XCs are delayed because they use 1 and are held to let a delayed 158 to Norwich through. But EMTs reliability has improved

I'm not sure, not planning anything unless i'm sure the EMT guard would be sympathetic if I were delayed. Why no Leicester RDD ?

He won't be sympathetic. You can't buy them from anywhere BUT Nottingham Station.

Allow yourself at least 15 mins from arrival at NOT to leaving again. I'd leave a little more personally, but with a quick dash if necessary...!

TomJ93 - next time ask someone if they are able to buy a ticket for you. In the recent past, Nick W, myself and Jordy have bought tickets and either posted them or handed them out on earlier meets. The best thing to do is ask on here, well in advance, if anyone is able to buy a ticket for you. Several members of this forum live in Nottingham and I know at least one would have done this for you. You know for next time

The most common places for RDDs are Corby and East Midlands Parkway, which is understandable as they wish to boost patronage from those stations.
