EMT Nottingham red dot day 25th July

Not sure if it's appeared elsewhere but EMT are having a red dot day for 20 quid, 10 for children. Station is Nottingham. Valid all day on all EMT services EXCEPT it is barred from Skegness services.

I doubt it! Everybody would just head there and all the trains would be rammed anyway. I expect a lot of folk will probably try it on anyway! Would be be the entire route Nottingham to Skegness, or just from Sleaford onwards as is current with Groupsave tickets not valid between Heckington and Skegness.

I think their intention is that its a day ranger, and will probably be marked with EMT ONLY or similar (EMIDSTRAINS.ONLY I think they have). But that's obfuscated nicely by their use of the word 'return'. I don't think it could be described as a season ticket however you look at it!

Return fare does make it sound a bit like the SWT promo of "X to Y" for £20, rather than a Day Rover for the entire network (bar Skegness)

It is probably just to confirm that you can get there and back for the £20 as some people may think it is £20 to get from Nottingham to wherever they want to go but then they have to pay again to get back! As some people ask that about Travelcards and day rovers etc :P

It's confusing, isn't it? On the one hand they say you can't travel between any station on the Nottingham – Skegness line but on the link above, one of the suggested destinations is Norwich; how else are you supposed to get there on an EMT train?

BUT

As long as you aren't on any direct Skegness services leaving Nottingham, you will be able to travel via Bingham on the Norwich service.

If you want to travel to Seaford, then I definitely think the 'red dot day' ticket will be invalid!

Never in a million years do they encourage people to travel to London lol, remember a couple of years ago they sent me an email saying £10 off your next booking on EMT site and EMT trains, put in Ely to Nottingham and it wasn't accepted, then tried Skegness, then Lincoln still not accepted only when I put in NOT to St Pancras was it finally discounted lol

Also notice that the Lincolnshire day ranger isn't valid on summer Saturdays so you cant use it on the HST

I think any station running between Skegness/Boston and Nottingham is excluded, simply because the trains will be very busy departing Nottingham. I'll be in Holland however, so I won't have any issues with Red Dot Day.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be obstructive here I promise. That just really does not clear it up at all!

Ok, seeing as certain forum members are being overly obstructive, you CANNOT use this ticket on trains which call at, or pass through the following locations:

Nottingham (Trains to/from Skegness)
Netherfield*
Radcliffe*
Bingham*
Aslockton*
Elton & Orston
Bottersford*
Grantham (Trains to/from Skegness)
and then all stations to/from Skegness are barred.

*The ticket can be used on the very limited services to/from Norwich/Liverpool at these stations ONLY.

While in the real world ...

I don't see inbound services from Skegness being a problem, as those who needed to be onboard from before Sleaford / Grantham would already have, and intermediate stations between Sleaford / Grantham and Nottingham are unlikely to generate huge passenger flows. I also don't think guards would like to get into arguments with passengers from intermediate stations as to whether the train originated from Skegness or not.

It is the outward services from Nottingham which are likely to need measures to help prevent overcrowding, hence the terms make it clear that Skegness trains are not valid with Red Dot Day tickets, and passengers would know which ones go to Skegness.

Norwich services are quite clearly not intended to be barred. How else would one get from Peterborough to Nottingham? Via Lincoln? Good luck with that.

Poorly worded most definitely, but I can't see major issues. Maybe next time they can revert back to not running this promotion during school holidays, just like last time, so there would be no need for exclusion clauses.

Don't get on a train that is going to, or has come from Skegness!

You can get any other service you like.

Staff are aware of that - and that is what will be enforced.

99.99% of customers will understand that - it is only a very limited number of enthusiasts that are struggling.
