EMT Meridian at Crewe

I just passed through Crewe a few minutes ago and saw an EMT Meridian standing on the east side of the station (platform 2 or 3?).

This seems quite unusual. Would it be a train in passenger service or some kind of maintenance move?

No idea, but it appears to return to Etches park at 1804

The destination was "Crewe C.S. (L&Nwr Site)" - is that site for maintenance? Seems a bit of a short visit if so, unless it's a swap.

According to realtime trains, both directions as empties:
Outward from Nottingham as 5D14, formed from 1D14 from St Pancras International.
Back to Derby Etches Park as 5Z14

No - the 153s were running pretty much as normal. When EMT put an empty 222 in platform 2 they're just rubbing it in.

No need for teat runs. They occasionally work the route especially when events like Uttoxeter Races are taking place

I think it is more to do with going to Crewe LNWR. It could be similar situation to Monday just gone where a HST went to Barrow Hill and back. Maybe Fueling and cleaning related rather than maintenance where it is easier to send a unit to Crewe or Barrow Hill due to restrictions at Derby?

The Derby - Crewe service was only running as far as Bamber Bridge on Friday morning, allegedly due to a failed train at/near Stoke. Don’t know if this had any bearing on the Crewe 222.

The Derby - Crewe service was only running as far as Bamber Bridge on Friday morning, allegedly due to a failed train at/near Stoke. Don’t know if this had any bearing on the Crewe 222.

Yes there was a fails Network Rail train near Longton. Passenger services were terminating at Blythe Bridge which were all 15x units. The 222 was running as 5D14 and 5Z14. I presume it got held up due to the 15x having to cross over at Caverswell? And wait an hour before returning to Derby and then the failed train a bit later on. I think the 222 was held for a bit at Uttoxeter.

Yes on football specials which don't stop anywhere other than Stoke or Crewe.
