EMT HST vs 222

Hi all,

To start of sorry if this is in the wrong thread, couldn't decide where to put it.

In a few days I'll be taking a trip from St Pancras to Nottingham and so have the choice as to whether to get a HST or 222 (will be in First Class).
I'm wondering as to whether people think First Class is better in the 222 or HST. I've not been on a 222 before so am keen to try that out however I gather they are virtually the same as Voyagers which I have been on a lot, so whether it's worth going on the HST before they're withdrawn?

Just my opinion, but HST by a country mile.

Similar, but different. Roomier cabin due to more oily gubbins being slung underneath relative to voyagers. Their acceleration is also impressive.

That said, I’d go with the HST. Get it while you can! We will miss them when they’re gone!

First class then the HST is better, standard class is the 222.

EMT 222 every day! HSTs are awful in Standard anyway with that terrible 70s era seating.

EMT made the decision for me, because of the damage near Bedford they cancelled lots of services, one of which being the HST I was possibly going to get so it was the 222 in the end.

Yeah HST is better, especially as these operate the faster services, which run non stop, from London to Market Harborough.
Also the HST is way more comfortable, even though I don't really get along with the seats.

True, you and one or two others here can keep the 40 plus year trains with seats that no longer mean current safety regulations, spray toilet waste all over the track, slow accelerating, present a PTI issue with the slam doors being able to be on the catch and the driver can still take power as well as not complying with PRM which is a big no no from 31/12/2019.

The 222s are superior in every way possible and I look forward to the retirement/scrapyard for the MML HSTs, the HST fleet has had it's day and it's time to move on to it's replacement.

I'm sure the headrests in standard on the 222's used to be red at one point, still, I find them slightly better at supporting the head than the HST seats.

If only we could keep our forty year old trains !

Their 1st class carriages are the most comfortable on the entire network.

Comfortable seats, easy to use lavatories with simple handles and locks and paper towels, and a nice droplight to get a bit of fresh air if you need it (from inside, obviously).

And those lovely squishy cushions that your head just sinks into.
