Not TOC staff, but some GPR signalmen can be expected, if my memory serves me correctly, to go up to 45 miles or 90 minutes from their home station - Kidsgrove from Burton is certainly at the upper end of that range though!

But this is for a station assistant role. I've never seen a distance like that before for a station role.

When i worked for the railway senior GPRs based at Preston covered Grange over sands, & Skipton which had no direct rail link between the latter some 45 miles away by road. It was during BR days though.

The GPRs in Lincolnshire have similar distances to cover, such as Lincoln to Skegness or Lincoln to Spalding. I never worked in that role, but as I understand it the GPR and RDR staff that work at multiple locations get their fuel costs reimbursed.
