I've just received a phonecall from the OPC regarding feedback for my failed MMI.

She took me through every question, saying I was successful at this, and successful at that.

Then...she got to the VERY LAST question, about roles similar to being a train driver, and told me this was the ONLY area I fell down on.

She told me to keep a similar level of performance next time but, think of a new example for the last question. lol :)

I'm feeling both gutted and encouraged at the same time! It's a strange feeling you know.

I would of thought being a train driver was pretty unique, so only people who have had a similar role will be considered!! So anyone out there who have not had a similar role will not be considered.
Lottery.

Thinking about it now, I feel like they wanted me to describe a task I did that uses most of the competencies that a train driver needs, such as vigilance, concentration, problem solving etc.

This as opposed to an actual role such as bus driving or truck driving, although that would probably have not done any harm.

I jumped straight to an example of me 'driving' something. ie. A forklift at work, being aware of hazards, rules and surroundings etc, but this clearly wasn't what they were looking for, or I didn't describe it well enough.

Well, I've got just under 5 months left to think of something, lol.

Judging by the telephone conversation, the questions should be about the same when I resit it. :D

I now know I can nail the MMI next time! I can't wait to try again now!

I think question 6 could prove to be my undoing too! That's the only one where I was asked to provide a better answer. Time will tell..

At least you know where you stand and have something to work on. Good luck!

Nice one Mick!

Has anybody who recently sat stage 2 & MMI been notified of their results yet?

Hi peamix

I had a phone call yesterday afternoon asking me to attend a interview on Wednesday! Sort notice but I'm glad I passed stage 2! Have you heard anything yet?

Well done Mick.

Has anyone else heard anything as of yet? I haven't heard either way and just want to know if I passed the mmi or not.

Example I gave was following rules and procedures in my current job, ensuring I was in a fit state to be at work (not under the influence of drink or drugs, being well rested). Then went on to say about the responsibility I have in ensuring I am signed off, fully trained, and fully understand the equipment I use. Saying that if i wasn't confident in using equipment, I wouldn't use it, and would not take risks. Finished off by saying about the responsibility I have ensuring my work colleagues also play by the rules, and how I would challenge and report anyone i saw breaking the rules at work.

I passed. Hope that gives you a bit of an insight into what they were looking for. Although, I may just be talking jiberish as always.

Just to add, its just as important to make sure your answers are actually true. Its not like a maths exam where there's a right or wrong answer.

i failed five years ago at my first attempt, and realised that I wasn't ready for the role. Since then I've changed jobs and matured, and now feel ready for the role. No point in rushing in if you're not ready. Need to be honest with yourself first.

I've still not heard anything from the MMI. My stage 2 was the 30th Jan.

I emailed EMT today asking for an update but haven't got a reply yet.

Got my letter from EMT today saying I was unsuccessful at stage 2

Contacted the OPC and was told that I had passed all the sections of the MMI except the Following Rules and Regulations section. But she can't tell me what I said wrong or what a good answer would be.

Annoyed that I failed on just the one thing but at same time I think I know what I said wrong

Sorry to hear that Tom. I'm dreading getting home but at least I will know.

I have my letter and I didn't get through. I shall drop the OPC an email later to get feedback. Good luck anyone who is still in it.

In case anyone's interested... A pal, who already works for EMT and is going for these depot driver posts, has had a letter to say that they have passed both stages but have been put in a "talent pool" for the time being. They gave EMT a call and were told that this is the first time they've had to do this and that the talent pool would be used up fully before there's any further recruitment, but they wouldn't say how they made the decision about who would be interviewed now and who would be held back. The results remain valid for two years. Given what I've heard about the experience I'm wondering if I should have thrown my own hat into the ring as well! I suspect I'd be better as a signalman...

Me too!!!
Obviously I'm mega happy to have passed Stages 1&2 but at the same time I'm slightly disappointed to be put on a waiting list. I just hope I don't get forgotten about.

Anyone else had any news (good or bad)?

BTW I'm new to the forum so I hope I'm doing this right. Apologies if not!

I did ask when and she hinted at this year but couldn't give a definitive answer so just got to wait now!

I called HR last week to see how long I could expect to stay in the talent pool before having to resit assessments and the guy said 12-18 months. He was also quick to let me know that there were no current opportunities.

Having passed stage 1 in January and then not getting the opportunity to take stage 2 I was told I would remain in a talent pool until 4th August. With it now being September I assumed I was going nowhere with this application. But no, today out of the blue I had a phone call from HR asking me to attend stage 2 in Nottingham on 1st October. I was told there are still no vacancies but they wanted to move me along in the process. So I suppose, should I be successful I will be better placed should a opportunity arise.
Anyone else get similar news today? I assume there must be as they wouldn't set up an assessment day just for me.

Well done everyone, and all the best with your assessments! :D

I'm hoping I'll get the chance to resit my MMI with EMT soon too.

Had stage 2 today. Got through the tests but I thought the picture recall test was tough. MMi seemed ok but don't really know exactly what they are looking for so fingers crossed. Did it with an assessor called Matthew who was brilliant. Best wishes everyone

I had my stage 2, in Nottingham, yesterday and like you Belper I passed the computer based tests and took the MMI. Should hear something in a week or two. There were 6 of us there and one guy didn't pass. Matthew said that they were there on the monday and tuesday and only had two candidates on both days. So does that mean a total of ten people attended the assessment? I had my interview with a chap called Chris, i think it went ok but you can never tell.

I found out that i passed stage 2 on friday. When i mentioned that i may have to give 6/7 weeks notice in my current job they seemed to cool down on the idea of giving me a stage 3 date so i am concerned that i talked them out of it. What sort of notice periods does eveyone else have to serve?. What sort of time do emt require ? Anyway i emailed back to explain that i would do anything to get a stage 3 date done sooner rather than later. Fingers firmly crossed. :?
