Do East Midlands Trains operate some of their Class 158 units on the Newark North Gate to Grimsby Town route sometimes?, I know it is mostly operated by Class 153 single car units and Class 156 2 car units, I have seen a Class 158 operating on the Peterborough to Lincoln/Doncaster route

I think a 158 can show up on any 156 diagram while the refurbishment programme is ongoing...

Oh right, There are 2 Class 158 units operate on Nottingham to Matlock route during the I'm not too sure about the Weekend services, but sometimes 156 unit turns instead of 158, but when the refurbishment on 153/156 units are completed and/or when 4 156 units from Northern Rail arrive the 158 will be taken off the slower routes as they are mostly a 153 and 156 route

As far as I know 158s can turn up on any local diagram at the moment - there should be 4 on the Local stuff everyday and that'll remain until Northern get the 150s to pass over their 156s.

Neither do EMT hence why they're getting 156s so the 158s become an (almost) dedicated fleet for Liverpool - Norwich.

Which they also aren't suited for........Sorry, i know, this old chestnut again, but in 2011 when lots of trains are competing for paths on busy lines, good acceleration is of paramount importance and 158's just don't have it, and thats before you take account of additional low power problems the fleet is suffering from.
The door layout makes them far from ideal for busy services with frequent stops.
It's time they were retired gracefully to quieter services with fewer stops, where keeping up on a mainline isn't so important. Routes like Lincoln - Peterborough for example.

On many occassions a 158 has been used instead of a 156 on the Grimsby route. If there has been a unit swap or if something has gone wrong leaving stock in the wrong place then this can happen. The majority of the trains working this are 153's, althhough a 156 is used on the 1723 Lincoln-Grimsby. I have worked this train a couple of times as a 158.

Also one or two of the summer Sunday service ran as booked 158's.

Displacing 158s at this point just isn't practical, as the only feasible alternative is lots more Class 170s which don't have that much better acceleration than the 158s do.
Not to mention it would cost a fortune when the government doesnt appear to care about public transport. They would also have to be an all new design likely combining the features of the Class 170s with the tranche of the 172s that has end gangways to enable proper coupling of sets on the busier core sections of the "express" routes.

Although Wikipedia isn't the most reliable place for information

A possible side effect of this is that Turbostars' performance is in line with the second generation 15x units, in fact being somewhat slower than a Class 150 or Class 156 on "short hop" workings, and slower than a Class 158 on longer distance workings unless there is enough 100mph running to take advantage of the 10mph higher top speed of the Class 170.

So in fact worse than a 158 unless they were running at 100mph between Grantham and Peterborough for example and even that's not enough really to make a difference overall.

This is why the Dft should not have put them on the routes they operate with London Midland.

158770/773/774/777/799/806/810/812/813 are ex-TPE
158780/783/785/788/846/847/852/854/856/857/858/862 are ex-CT
158863/864/865/866 are ex-FGW.

All appear the same now as they've all been refurbished.
