Hi all,

Apologies if this has already been covered but a quick search yielded nothing.

I was on an EMT service today out of London St Pancras; the train manager made the usual announcements but also said there should be an at-seat trolley service but couldn't be certain as catering is nothing to do with EMT anymore and it has been contracted out to Rail Gourmet.

When did this happen? And is that it? Is this the end of the buffet on EMT? The service was a Meridian and the buffet area looked very empty with nothing but a few packets of crisps and paper cups on the shelves.

What about first class catering?

I hope the hot food offer onboard EMT hasn't changed, because i really love the hot baguettes which they offer onboard both HSTs and Meridians..

I once heard the "buffet bar bloke" towards the beginning of the year announce that they were all £2 on that specific train for a one off special offer.. ;)

I used to love the weekend cooked breakfast you used to get on Midland Mainline. Very high quility all round and very good price for 1st class ticket with breakfast.

Catering on trains to and from Corby has been contracted out to Rail Gourmet. All the other services from St Pancras are EMT staff, although this could be a trolley instead of a buffet.

I don't know what happens to the the first class service on Corby trains, as I don't drive them as I don't sign the route.

Hope that's helpful!

PS. This contracting out came at the same time, or around the same time, as trains were extended from Kettering to Corby.

Ah right that is most helpful. I must say the train manager seemed totally unimpressed when giving the announcement; in saying that the trolley was well stocked - I managed to have a good look at it as it came crashing through, squashing the odd foot or small child as it went.

On the Sheffield runs it is nearly always a buffet. Sometimes you get the trolley in addition to the buffet.
