EMT 222 refurbishments

EMT are in the proccess of refurbishing their 222 fleet with 7 cars being done, then 5 and then 4 cars

They have seats that actually line up with the windows! (Virgin and XC please take note)

They aren't. This is the DMSO which has 6 tables grouped together

That's what I get for never using that carriage. Why is the "refurbishment" needed? Is there anything else to it?

Just replacing seat covers in SC and adding leather seats to FC.

The refurbishment was needed though, as for some reason, the material used on 222 seats gets worn very easily, and lots of seats were threadbare.

Oddly enough, this is 008, the first to be refurbished

This unit was also the first 222 to enter service

Have they added "wings" to the headrests? Or do they just show up more in that over-bright red?

Good grief - none I've ever seen have been quite as bad as that, but clearly some new covers were needed!

carpet is so much nicer the orange was horrid. However it will be a shame to see the Hull Trains green disappear. The seating looks slightly different than the connect fleet with red being th only colour used.

Crosscountry should learn from this looks very good! Luggage space will be increased too

Btw has EMT painted any stations in to its corporate scheme because on fotopic some still appear to have Regional Railways signage and Nottingham hasn't been touched for some time?

Leicester has been painted, as have most of the stations between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent.

Despite using them almost daily I've never seen them that worn! Some HST lover attacking the 222s with razor blades? Not the 222s fault they're better

It is the type of material used I think, they are a lot rougher etc than other train seats

Are "priority" seats every upholstered in a contrasting colour to assist the impaired?

I recall when I worked in an office in Glasgow, all the chairs were blue - except the reinforced seats for colleagues over 18 stone which were upholstered in red?

I like it, nothing major was needed.

I travel on them occasionally and had noticed that the seats were getting a little worn for a train that still seems new (I know it is not, but that is how fast time flies). I never saw one as bad as that picture though.

Leicester has been painted, as have most of the stations between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent.

Leicester doesnt seem a great refurb to be honest - paint used filling staff accomodation with fumes and at times (on sundays) when platform 1 was closed for refurb staff were at times unable to access the booking on point. EMT gave little of no communication to XC Hopefully the refurbishment on the trains will be of better quality

Some of the doors at Sheffield and Chesterfield have been painted blue (from MML green) and they have replaced the benches with ones with closer seat spacing (and where they were previously padded in waiting rooms) Great way of spending money, replacing not very old metal seats.

The Mk3s were a compromise too, the 1st class seats line up with the windows but in all table configuration the standard class seats don't. The Mk3s were the first to have standard window spacing, unlike the Mk2s and Mk1s which had different spacing for 1st and 2nd class.
