EMT 1st Class

Hi all,

Travelling from London this weekend with East Midlands trains - having looked at the timetable it's a Meridian set I'll be on.

Just wondering what 1st Class is like on EMT at the weekend? Busy/quiet? Many freebies etc?

Unless it's improved dramatically since MML days, you get nothing but a bigger seat. No at seat service at weekends, no freebies. Business depends on the time. With weekend first upgrades available on the train, it can get quite busy at times (but from experiance most TOCs are the same).

It hasn't improved dramatically . I suppose the free tea/coffee is a slight advantage now that Standard Class passengers don't get it - but don't forget to tell them you're in First Class before ordering (I didn't - and got a proper telling-off for it)

Usual trick here is to act as the "stupid customer"
"Hi, I'm in First Class and would like to know what I am entitled to"
If the buffet / shop is quiet then you will usually be offered everything, especially if it is early on in the journey, the idea being to save you coming back a second time

If you know what you're entitled to and you just want a cup of tea though - you need to be sure to ask for a First Class cup of tea (the free tea is different stock or something).

There used to be free bottled water on the tables but this seems to have been stopped. If you're on a service where's it's been fitted and is still working you'll get free wifi.

I was on an EMT London - Nottingham - Sheffield service in first last Saturday evening. There was free cold drinks/nuts/biscuits and would have been hot drinks too but the trolley didn't turn up!

It was fairly quiet as far as Leicester, from then on I had the carriage to myself!
