Well I have now needed to use it and it worked like a dream - ticket changed in less than a minute and at no cost.

Has anyone tried to use the Seatfrog "ticket swapper" on Northern or LNER? How does it work?
I tried it on a Hull to York advance but missed the cut off for the new ticket by a couple of mins
