A while back I was helpfully told that Coach D on the Meridians is half and half, and tends to be fairly quiet as not everyone realises this.

Coming back from London on Saturday I was looking to hop on, only to find that the whole coach was marked as 1st, with the yellow bar the full length and 2+1 seating right through.

Has part of this coach been derestricted, or are there units in the fleet with a full 1st class coach D? The guard did announce half of the coach was standard class, but it didn't look that way to me. Maybe muscle memory on their part?

Unit was 222006.

006 has a Motor First instead of a Motor Composite as its Coach D.

This is, AIUI, permanently partly declassified.

There's a few sets with declassified coaches owing to reforming the 4 cars into 5 cars a few years ago.

222005 (now gone) and 222006 have one extra Motor First (MF) with 1/3 declassified.

222103 and 222104 have an extra MF with the original Motor Composite (MC) (coach C) and 1/3 of the MF (Coach D) declassified.

The opposite exists on 222101 and 102 where they gained a Motor Standard (MS) but only have their original reduced proportions of 222/1 first class.

Thanks, both, useful to know. Are there clear markings inside which seats are declassified? As it looked like it was 1st class we skipped it and went elsewhere, not wanting to miss out on a seat at all. Looks like we missed the opportunity for a more comfortable seat instead!

It's supposed to have grey headrest covers which indicate that they are standard class, however they were installed a few years ago and may have gone missing/damaged/removed. The seat numbers atop the seats are red in standard rather than blue in first which indicates which section is declassified on these units

There should also be stickers on the inside of the windows indicating the declassified area, but again most of these have gone missing too!

The seat numbers above the seats are red on the declassified seats. It's the easiest way to tell as the grey headrests / windows labels keep getting removed.
