I've heard numerous rumours but nothing has been confirmed as of yet - will East Midlands Railway be having an HST Farewell Tour?

As you say, nothing announced at all as yet. But given what EMT organised over the life of their franchise, that the staff are largely the same now as they were then, and that Abellio have done enthusiast events with Greater Anglia - I would think it is quite likely. No guarantees, of course.

There would be no point in attempting to schedule it until much closer to the time. There's no guarantee that the Corby electrification will be exactly on time (there's surely a good chance of some snags at least), and the HSTs can't leave until the 222s currently running to Corby are freed up.

The time for EMR's own HSTs (with VP185 power cars and IC70 seats) is pretty close as they are to be imminently replaced by LNER's HSTs. Hence the question about a farewell tour.

A second trip might be appropriate when the former LNER HSTs are removed by Corby electrification.

If they run one then it'd be a good trip I reckon - most of the idiots will have wasted their money on the LNER Tour so couldn't ruin this one.

On a more serious note, as VP185s are much more preferable to MTUs (in my opinion) then I would certainly try and get on such a tour.

Hmm. I *suppose* there might be two 'farewells' or just one, for the original current EMR HSTs - but it would seem a bit weird to the general public 'Farewell to the HSTs - which are being replaced with very similar HSTs'. I suppose I was assuming there would only be one farewell, when the ex-LNER HSTs go, but thinking about it, who knows? Maybe EMR are scratching their heads about it as we speak.

Personally, I think it would be great for EMR to do a fairwell tour with the VP185 power cars. They are the only ones that aren't fitted with MTU engines, so they should have a proper send off too.

I'd sooner go on or see an EMR farewell tour than the recent LNER one, as it'll be the last time HSTs will be running on proper high speed intercity services. After they've left the midland mainline they'll just be left on regional services in Scotland and the South West.

Ah yes. Forgot about them, mainly because I'm never lucky enough to see them. Not for much longer though. I think it's only a matter of time before they're replaced. Either by bi mode trains or displaced Voyagers or Meridians.

The HSTs marked for preservation for the 125 group will keep their VP185 engines won't they? Hopefully an MTU power car will be preserved as well.

I believe the 125group want to return at least one power car to as near original condition as possible. They have a few Valenta engines so that may be reinstalled.

The prototype already has a Valenta engine right? I'd like at least one power car with each type of engine ideally. I love the sound of a Valenta, but I grew up with the MTU power cars.

If they keep one with the VP185 and install the Valenta in the other power car, that would be one preserved production power car with each engine.
