EMR Groupsave - Break of journey

Are breaks of journey (beginning/ending the journey short and also breaking/resuming the journey) permitted with EMR groupsave tickets? It doesn't say so on EMR's official website. We will of course always travel together and break/resume our journeys together as a group but didn't wanna be caught out.

If this is a situation where its kinda allowed until someone officially enquires about it then please report the post so admins can delete it asap.

I can't see any break of journey restrictions on the restriction code on these fares, e.g. B3 for Sheffield-Chesterfield, though it may be different on different flows.

It's the other way round; break of journey has to be explicitly forbidden - and made clear at the time of purchase - otherwise it is allowed.

There's nothing to say a break of journey isn't permitted on GS3/GS4/GS5 ticket types.

Note that this isn't really GroupSave and is actually a group ticket that EMR erroneously and confusingly calls "GroupSave" (rogue EMR revenue protection officers have even been known to issue Penalty Fares to people who held actual GroupSave tickets on the basis that it was the "wrong type of GroupSave"!), which should really be against the rules, however Rail Delivery Group lack anyone with the power and desire to actually tell train companies to behave themselves!

Thanks everyone! Ticket was Hucknall to Meadowhall which has restriction code B3. Looks like BoJ is allowed. Will also have to make my way to a ticket office as its not sold online.

There are two sets of fares available from Hucknall to Meadowhall. The any permitted fare will allow travel via Nottingham but there is also a cheaper via Worksop fare available. Make sure that you purchase the correct one for the route you want to use to break your journey.

The EMR Groupsave ticket isn't meant to be valid on Northern or TPE which should rule out Meadowhall as a destination, and yet there the tickets are. The BR Fares info on TOCs reads as follows:

Journey must include travel on at least one of the following main TOCs: SCOTRAIL, LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, CALEDONIAN SLEEPER LTD, EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY
Connecting travel (where permitted by routeing) is allowed on:
GREATER ANGLIA, WEST MIDLANDS TRAINS, TRANSPORT FOR WALES RAIL

Indeed. The coupons erroneously state valid for one passenger in the data. Retailers have to implement custom data to retail them. EMR refuse to change this.

I think that the actual GroupSave discount is as you describe, but there isn't anything to say that the EMR priced group tickets aren't valid on other operators.

The nearest equivalent on Northern is "Duo" which isn't restricted by operator.

The website gives no hint at any such restrictions, and with the tickets routed Any Permitted, and servicing non EMR stations, even the most overzealous revenue officer or Guard would be forced to accept them

Off-Peak Only​

Same Travel Time​

All members of the group must travel together on the same train for the entire journey to benefit from the group discount. Splitting up the group during the journey would invalidate the discount.

Applicable Routes​

Not all train routes offer GroupSave rail tickets. They are commonly available on regional and local routes rather than long-distance or high-speed services. Always check whether GroupSave is available for your specific journey. Journeys in and out of London are not eligible for GroupSave.

How to Buy GroupSave Train Tickets​

You can buy GroupSave tickets at any EMR ticket office or from our onboard team if no ticket office is available at your station. Remember – GroupSave is valid for off-peak services only, and all passengers must travel together for the entire journey.

They really shouldn't be called GroupSave and should have the data corrected and be available online.

EMR are risking a class action claim against them by continuing to act in this manner. Sadly we do not have an effective ombudsman, passenger watchdog or regulator who actually acts in passengers interests, and has the required knowledge and power to do anything to require rogue companies such as EMR to behave themselves.

Also important to note you can definitely purchase onboard when there's no ticket office. If you just let the guard know when you board at Hucknall they'll sell it, no bother.

I would assume the tickets to be valid on Northern trains as well because of the via Worksop route also being offered(?)
