Anybody see the hilarious and totally bonkers disregard to continuity......

Paddy was seen waiting for a train in Germany..... The station was clearly a station in West Yorkshire and they showed a red Metro train. The sound over was of a German station, pretending to be in Germany.

If they didn't want to do a shoot in Germany, the continuity could have been a million times better (couldn't have been worse).

If you fancy a laugh, watch the last minute or two of Monday's episode.

Yep! I never really understand why people bother to mention this, rather than thinking about the grand scheme of things.

I didn't mean it as a serious error, I actually meant as from an enthusiasts point of view. That's why I bothered to mention it on a rail enthusiasts forum, in a general discussion section. I thought other rail enthusiasts may find it funny/interesting.

And not sure what the grand scheme of things is when considering teatime, soap opera, fantasy TV is!

Thats not a continuity issue.

Nice one. Well said. We enthusiasts are entitled to discuss things on this forum without being put down all the time. I also find the film /TV companies lack of knowledge funny when it comes to railways.

Because this is a forum to discuss things on. We have a right to. If you don't like it, don't get involved in the topic. Simple

Thank you. I certainly didn't expect to get knocked for posting it!

Light hearted observation and discussion. And my apologies for the incorrect use of continuity! I'll thrash myself later.

And I thought I was the saddo - a rail enthusiast that enjoys Emmerdale. I get warmth from the fact that there are people who take it to the next level by mocking me for it..... There is a slight sense of irony tied up somewhere in that.

No one has mocked you.

Mocked/dismissed.

Anyway, let's just agree to disagree. In the meantime, watch that bit of Emmerdale. It really is BAD!

That episode was silly :)
I'm not sure which station it was though.

I thought it was a West Yorkshire suburban station? Stone buildings and a red, ramped footbridge.

Nothing to do with trains, but last night's episode was even more cringeworthingly comical. Poor writing and dire acting at their best/worst! Could almost see the.set wobbling a la Acorn Antiques.

I doubt that. Real people honestly wont give a stuff yet spotters wibble themselves crazy over such things.

The programme is not designed as an every day tale of railway folk where railway accuracy might be expected. People aren't watching Emmerdale for railway accuracy

I wouldn't pigeon hole people into categories. I am a real person, I like Emmerdale. I am not a spotter but enjoy railways.....

I actually just thought it was a poor piece of filming. Just as when you get jet tracks in the sky in Westerns or a TV aerial and modern gutter on a house in Poldark. I'd say it meant an eye for detail and certainly don't think that's a bad thing.

Each to their own eh?! I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it!

Nothing to do with railways...
But am I the only one who thinks Paddy had more right to be in his own house than the wife-stealer? Aswell as being within his rights to kick him out?
My family disagrees with me, but Paddy is not at fault.

Sooner watch a live webcam of a railway than any of that Eastdaler's Street nonsense ;)

You seem to have problems with people who are interested in railways I.e enthusiasts. Strange when you think this is a rail forum.

Well if you want real inaccuracy in a programme have a look at the series about Queen Victoria that's just started on the ITV.
Queen Victoria was short and plain as a pikestaff - contemporary reports describe her as "coarse looking". She also spoke English with a pronounced German accent - she was after all German.

So "they" have cast lovely looking Genna Coleman speaking in a cut glass English accent. Well at least she's short so that's one out of three.

I'm not sure which station it was though.
Reckon it were Kirkstall Forge, nobbut a stone's throw from t'Kirkstall Road studios, may have been filmed just before opening this year.

As we're being pedants I shall respectfully point out that her name is Jenna Coleman ;)

Nope, it's just that he and I and indeed many people who have an interest in railways have a sense of perspective!

It's got nothing to do with perspective about an interest in railways. From a rail point of view, I couldn't give a stuff. I think you will find many people who have a nominal amount of geographical intelligence, can easily spot that England is not Germany!

And as I say (not that I should have to justify myself), I just thought it was sloppy. I certainly won't be crying into my edition of RAIL.

I look back at this thread and think what was a bit of light hearted fun with no intention other than to share a harmless observation, turns into people making things personal.

That is sad. If people don't like what it says, they can always take the option of not commenting at all, or at least not in a judgmental, personal manner.

So what should they have done instead? It doesn't seem practical to shift the crew and actors all the way to Germany to film one scene.

Sorry - I wasnt aware that comments were only allowed if they agreed with you.

Do nothing probably. As I say I was just making an observation that made me chuckle.

Not at all re disagreeing. Different points of view are great. At least they are when they are factual rather than personal.

Anyway, here endeth the posts that have nothing to do with my first posting!

Thats funny. First, the hostility appears to becoming from your direction towards those that don't agree with you and second, in a previous post you infer we are the "saddos".

Not at all. I was referring to myself being double saddo for being both being a rail enthusiast and a fan of a rather poor, daily soap opera.

I actually think neither are, but that's what many people would think. I try my best to be non-judgmental and certainly didn't expect this backlash from posting an innocent comment.

When newspapers publish rail stories, they tend to show a picture and type of train completely unrelated to the location of the story.

Well the BBC at least in times gone by were pretty accurate, having just viewed a 1972 episode of Till Death Us Do Part the Garnett family decide to take a holiday in Bournemouth with a scene onboard the train (mk1 first class compartment but obviously a studio set) supposedly stationary somewhere between Waterloo and Clapham Junc. and outside the corridor window was a blue/grey Rep/TC style EMU, on arrival they actually went to the trouble of using the real Bournemouth Station where they climbed into a taxi at what is still the current rank in use today, must admit I was quite impressed by the accuracy, and that they actually went on location plus the episode was quite hilarious too.
