Afternoon all,

I'm going to China tomorrow for two weeks. I'm excited but nervous at the same time!

I'm going on Emirates to Dubai, then Dubai to China, and the same returning. All four flights are on the A380.

Has anyone flown with Emirates before? What was it like? Were there things to do? I know there is Wifi on board but I know it's expensive.

Has anyone been to Beijing at all?

I'd be grateful if you could share your experiences!

Thanks!

I've heard good things about the A380s - their 777s are cattle carriers though with a very high density interior

Emirates A380s are much better than 777s (in economy at least) from having been on both but I don't think their 777s are much worse than anyone else's.

They do look like absolutely fantastic machines - huge buggers too! The staff on board are meant to be incredibly warming too; so I think I'll be in good hands!

Geordie back from exile.
I've flown on 6 or 7 of their A380s and enjoyed every flight. The camera system on them is fab, you can view the take off roll from the nose cam or the tail cam if you like. Think I put a couple of videos on YouTube of them somewhere.....

Good cabin service but Dubai airport can be a bit of a pain at times. Still streets ahead of that hell-hole known as Heathrow and its pain of a terminal 5.

Flew on BA's A380s recently HKG - LHR - HKG and they just don't compare.

Yeah, mate of mine just flew Emirates Melbourne to Manchester and back on 777's and said they were awful. Another mate did the same route on A380's and loved it.

Dan, I hope you enjoyed your flights. However, the world is in fact a sphere, not a flat projection, so, you could probably have spent much less time in an aircraft by taking a more direct routing which probably would go north of Moscow. Via Dubai to China is rather like London to Leeds via Birmingham, great if you lke travelling on trains. May even have been possible to do a one-stop from your local airport through say Amsterdam. That said, the A380 is noted to be exceptional.

Having looked at recent deals China Southern could have provided a bargain.

Etihad to China. Brilliant flights with them, never a bad one yet. Just booked my partner with them again. When things go wrong, often our doing, they've been brilliant. I know others may disagree, but I can't fault them yet.

In Beijing, go and see the pandas in the zoo. The Forbidden City and the Olympic stadiums are also very worthwhile.

Just flown from Manchester to Dubai and then onto Perth after a two day stop over. All on EK 777s and two of the nicest flights I've ever had.

That said, I haven't been on an A380 yet..

Indeed however Emirates were offering the best deal at the time.

In Beijing, go and see the pandas in the zoo. The Forbidden City and the Olympic stadiums are also very worthwhile.

Went to both of these attractions, not the zoo however, along with the Summer Palace, the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square.

Just to report on my flights, they were exceptional. On the first flight, flight EK 030 to Dubai, I experienced severe pressure in my ears as we were landing, although not so bad on the second flight, EK 306 to Beijing. On the return, EK 307 to Dubai, I managed to sleep, then on the last one, EK 029 to London, I was awake for the duration. The staff are absolutely wonderful, with immaculate uniform and presentation. They are also very beautiful too! I would fly with Emirates again definitely!
