Emirates Air Line - usage by tourists

During trade events at Excel e.g World Travel Market the usage is quite high. When the new Intercontinental hotel opens up at North Greenwich delegates are likely to stay here and use the cable car to Excel, further increasing ridership. As for the garden bridge- total waste of money!

The article from where that graph originates does point out that if the cable car was a bus route it would be London's 407th busiest!

And now that it has just been announced the hours of service, and journey time, will be extended in the evening with music and video entertainment provided, I think more or less confirms that TfL have given up on the idea of the cable car being a commuter service and are concentrating on the tourist market.

Yeah I think extending the ride time from 20 to 25 minutes is basically saying yes its for tourists not commuters.

Its got a capacity of 2500 an hour, simply replacing it with buses would take what 40 buses?
I think they were being a bit tongue in cheek praising it, its got 60% of the usership of the boat link and if they were tube stops they would be 248th out of 270, and that's 407th busiest bus route out of 500.

The cable car should be included in Tfl's standard ticketing, free to use in the price of an Oyster/Travelcard. Another Boris vanity project.

If it a) runs at full capacity, and b) each bus can make one trip per hour, then yes - it's something like that.

I don't know about b), but I very much doubt that a) is true.

I was in London and had a couple of hours to kill in between meetings so I decided to go on the cable car.

It does appear to be going more touristy. I had a pod all to myself, the gate line assistant told me that it's always quiet in the week but much busier at weekends.
