Emergency stop at Wye

I’m typing this on a Javelin heading towards St Pan.

Thanks to the excellent driver who pulled a very quick emergency stop as a car pulled into the crossing south of Wye!

We’re just a few behind now as the signalman had to be phoned - coupling to an ex-coast now at Ashford.

Is that the public road by the station, is it still hand worked gates? Or an occupation crossing, fortunate that the line is straight.

It was (EDIT: NOT) the A2070 crossing at Ashford, I think. A nice, straight stretch of track.

I'm not familiar with the area but I don't think there are any level crossings on the A2070 or other A roads in the area. There is a level crossing on a minor public road immediately south of Wye station, and doubtless also footpath/bridleway/farm crossings etc.

Ah, that makes sense, thank you. I was looking at Google Maps and couldn't see the minor road crossing.

It certainly seems as though it were the minor road.

I suspect it would be an occupation crossing nearby - the main crossing at Wye is manual gate controlled, so you'd have to completely obliterate the gates to get accross (not that this didn't stop some crims in a stolen car doing the same at Chartham last year)!
