Fair enough. I’ve only done it from the Edinburgh side. Had many a colleague surprised at how fast the journey is by the coach. Glasgow to Inverness seems to be pretty close journey times though.

it is. If the train is held on the HML due to most of it being single tracked, then the coach can overtake and beat it to Inverness

Not just the HML, but the FNL and its meandering route (single tracked) to Thurso/Wick is invariably also beaten by Stagecoach & Ember, and the views are equally dramatic. That said, it’s worth bagging for completeness!

Citylink advertise as 3h 20 however in reality it always gets close to near 4 hours. Flix advertise it as 3h 30, which is slightly more realistic...
The train is so much quicker but you get the same stunning views near Aberdeen whatever route you take!

I'd be lying if I told you that I'd fully expected to see 5 daily Edinburgh - Fort William services and two daily Aberdeen - Braemar - Dundee services before they filled the gaps from Fort William / Glasgow / Edinburgh to Inverness! It's nice to see genuine novel thinking, and even nicer to see it apparently paying off. It makes it look like the coach market is complacent and dysfunctional, and that there is untapped potential (also thinking about Climate Action Strathaven when I type this).
I expected Glasgow to Aberdeen to launched before all of this. Always interesting to see what they launch.

Better not to over-extend then under-deliver? The journeys have to be do-able without a recharging stop, as passengers are unlikely to accept this. I agree Glasgow > Aberdeen is just about do-able, perhaps by extending E3 from Dundee, or they might we awaiting Youtongs with greater capacity battery packs?

Could they swap drivers in Dundee so an Aberdeen driver only goes as far as Dundee with a Dundee driver taking over?

That's an interesting way of doing it, at the moment Aberdeen drivers only drive to Corstorphine and then an Edinburgh driver takes over to drive in and out of the town.

Does the Aberdeen driver remain on board the vehicle as a passenger or do they alight at Corstorphine?
They get off at Corstorphine right outside the Ember driver hub which is an old beauty salon!
I go past it regularly. It looks decent enough with some comfy chairs, a coffee table with a big fruit bowl and some current and period coach travel related posters on the wall.

Perhaps the driver forgot? In addition to the standard info, here’s the ScotGov response to an FOI request about this very issue. Cross-Border Travel.
Considering this is around a 60 mile journey, I seriously doubt ScotGov would fund any part of this south of Carter Bar. Perhaps Hoggs were being philanthropic? Certainly it could be used Jedburgh to the border with no issue. I doubt it would be accepted at Newcastle.

Some E3X services would be a good solution then as I reckon an express Aberdeen - Dundee - Glasgow service would do fantastic.
You could also go via Forfar and Brechin aswell giving them a direct bus to Glasgow and 2bph to Dundee and Aberdeen
Ladies and gentlemen,I can confirm the E8 SHALL be Glasgow-Inverness with the likely hood being the E9 will be Edinburgh-Inverness.

It used to be allowed for free travel to Newcastle as long as the journey started in Scotland on the old 131? I believe that is still the case with the current Hogg X74

That arrangement will be to ensure the driver gets a 45 minute break . The total journey is about 4 hours between the terminals. If the driver has to pick up the coach from the depot in Aberdeen, that will add to driving time. I assume that traffic congestion on the route is most likely between Corstorphine and the Edinburgh terminal. The driver has about an hour off in Corstophine if all goes to plan before taking the coach back.
The NX services from Norfolk to Victoria used to have a similar arrangement where the drivers changed over at Stratford.

I used in Ember between Wick and Inverness in August and they were excellent.

If I remember correctly it's around the Fleming Road area however it's not ready for use
