On another note while work is being done on Ely North Junction it looks like Ely station will more or less be closed everywhere if you include the Bury St Edmunds branch as well

Buses to Peterborough, Downham Market (not sure why that far as they can run trains to Littleport without BI DI) Brandon and Ipswich

Also before anyone gets excited, there is zero chance of a half hourly service on the Kings Lynn branch in the current FCC franchise - this was brought up today at Cambridge at a staff training course and the answer came from senior management however the impression I got was the next franchise MIGHT do this.

The franchise bidders might be asked to price a half hourly* service. But there is much work to do to the infrastructure to enable it.

*except it wouldn't be half hourly all day, as there are some freight trains in the way.

Yes indeed, they would have to rip the line up and rip out the electric masts between Littleport and Downham also between Watlington and Lynn in order to double the track, then the masts need re installing again

They only just manage now in peak times with half hourly services and they are only going one way

Besides the current off peak services aren't exactly full (between Ely and Lynn) more like half full so why someone wants to waste alot of money on hourly services I dont know

All in all the money that would be wasted on this should be invested in re opening the Hunstanton Branch or Swaffham

Shame, but some very valid reasons explained here, which I agree with fully.
I would still like to see the Cambridge terminating fasts extended as far as Ely though, to provide a half hourly Ely-London service.
