I vaguley remember it the operator being We're All Going Nowhere, although it may have been Anglia. It definitely wasn't (n)one.

Apologies if its part of the pun, one did operate Ely. They are after all Anglia and WAGN together, and what NXEA is today. Although both branches of Wagn did indeed operate here funnily enough.

I am only going off vague memories. Yes, it was "One", as I always get confused about One and WAGN, as the latter gave routes to One didn't it?

Ely is now in the hands of NXEA (well not for long) until Stagecoach take over for a short while.

Well nothing is certain, but I think Stagecoach are the most likely. Although, to be fair, anything is possible with the DfT. :roll:

Fair enough. Seem to have done alright with their other franchises. Personally I'm a fan of Govia, albeit with Southern, not London Midland. Who else is in the running?

Railway Eye's sources suggest that Go-Ahead (Govia), Stagecoach and Abellio have prequalified for the temporary Greater Anglia franchise.

Not sure about Govia: Southeastern and London Midland aren't the most well liked TOCs, although they do have their strengths along with the more respected Southern.

Abellio has done well with Northern and Merseyrail, especially considering the poor quality rolling stock Northern is lumbered with.

It came under Network South East management in 1982 although it wasn't called that until 1986, it was formerly known as London & South Eastern.

It then came under the management of WAGN when privatisation came in 1994 which then got taken over by Prism back in 1997.

A further takeover in 2000 saw National Express takeover Prism Rail and thus management of WAGN came under National Express which remain unchanged until 2004.

Then in 2004, WAGN as it was then known had the Liverpool Street services transferred to a new, consolidated East Anglia railway franchise, called One Railway.

Between 2004 and 2006 it simply was known as WAGN rather then the full name of West Anglia Great Northern until 2006 when the remaining Great Northern routes became part of First Capital Connect.
