Elstow Incident Vehicles

This is related to the two units involved with the Elstow (Bedford) incident and NOT the incident itself.

Both Units had pretty bad damage to them from the images online.

810015 - As a new unit I suspect it will be repaired. Do you think it will be?


360115 - Older unit. This looks to have worse damage from the images. So would this be scrapped or repaired?


I have no inside knowledge about these hence the questions.

What are people thoughts?

Honestly, I do think there is a realistic chance that both units get scrapped.

Initial observations did seem to show both units had telescoped, this is when essentially the crumple zones do their job, but it is typically part of the structure of the train.

I suspect the 810 will be replaced with a new train, with the potential for vehicles furthest from the impact potentially inspected for reuse.

Whatever happens, the bar couplers, the overriders and any other sacrificial components will all need inspecting, and the damage was much more severe than the unit that had an HST hit the back of it.
