ELR chainages - how to find chainage at a given location

Hi

Is there a way of finding out the ELR chainage for a given location on a rail line? i.e. at a specific grid ref.

I have the Omnicom track locator app on my phone which finds your position via GPS then gives the chainage for that location. But there doesn't seem to be a way of using the app to find the chainage without actually being at the location. Basically I just want to find the grid ref of a location using OS mapping then find out what the chainage is from that.

I think there must be some way of doing it as the track locator must look up the ELR chainage from a database somewhere using the grid ref supplied by GPS on the app. Any ideas?

Thanks

Network Rail has a GIS database of milepost positions but I don't know if it is available to the public.

The Level crossings list provides Grid refs and Mile / Chainage for each crossing.
This list includes all forms of crossing not just LCs.
Again though do not know if publicly available.

Actual LCs though have the Mile + Chain listed on Quail maps.
