I am considering whether to renew my annual Queens Road Peckham to London terminals in December. I often need to travel to / from London Victoria. Since direct services are stopping once the London Overground gets going, can anyone tell me whether the ticket would be valid on routes using LO via Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill and also Clapham Junction (connecting to Victoria and Waterloo)?

I may buy a Nunhead to London Terminals ticket instead. I know that this would be valid for travel between Victoria and QRP via Peckham Rye but would it also be valid on LO services to / from Clapham Junction?

You'll be able to use a season from Queens Road Peckham on LO services as it's also a NR service in addition to being TfL to Victoria, as well as Waterloo/East, Blackfriars, Cannon Street, London Bridge, Charing Cross, Vauxhall and City Thameslink. However it won't be valid on northbound services to Highbury and Islington after QRP.

London Terminals seasons are already valid for example on the ELL between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace/West Croydon depending on which ex Southern station you purchase from.

Thanks very much for the reply. Do you know whether a Nunhead to London Terminals ticket will also be valid via Peckham Rye / Clapham Junction?

Nunhead to London Terminals is showing as ANY PERMITTED on BR Fares, so the same rules apply as from Queens Road Peckham as to the London Terminals you're allowed to travel to. The only difference is you'll be allowed to travel between Victoria/Blackfriars/City Thameslink and Nunhead on Southeastern or in the other direction to Lewisham for other services to London Bridge, Cannon Street and Charing Cross.

If I could attempt my answer, taking the Queens Road Peckham-London Terminals ticket first. Your ticket is valid (at present):
-on all direct trains from Queens Road Peckham to London Terminals (which at present, gives you either QRP-London Bridge or QRP-London Victoria
-by the shortest route from QRP to each appropriate London Terminal station. As far as I can see, the 'appropriate' London Terminals for QRP are London Bridge, Cannon Street, City Thameslink, Blackfriars, Waterloo East, and Charing Cross. Vauxhall and Victoria in my view are grey areas (at this juncture anyway). I think we are all agreed that the stations on the other side of central London (Paddington going clockwise to Fenchurch Street) are all inappropriate
-routes within three miles of the shortest route are also allowed (I'll return to these two bullets later)
-by all appropriate mapped routes from QRP to London Terminals. QRP is a member of both London Group and Peckham Rye Group. With the London zonal cash fares, Peckham Rye group does pass the fares check rule, however because there is a common routeing point, this must be used.

Lets look further at shortest routes:
QRP-London Bridge 2.75 miles
QRP-London Cannon Street 3.5 miles
QRP-London Waterloo East 3.75 miles
QRP-London Charing Cross 4.5 miles
QRP-London Blackfriars 5 miles
QRP-City Thameslink 5.5 Miles
QRP-Vauxhall (grey area) 5 miles (via Waterloo East), for comparision QRP-Vauxhall is 9 miles via Clapham Junction which is hence an inappropriate route
QRP-London Victoria (grey area) 5.75 miles

and as I said, routes within 3 miles of each shortest route above are also allowed. I interpret this as a route from QRP to City Thameslink of 8.5 miles or less is allowed (when on a route to City Thameslink) but that an alternative route to London Bridge must be 5.75 miles or less (ie not 8.5 miles or less, ie you can't have the luxury of 3 miles more than the route to the furthest away London Terminal when you're travelling to the nearest one - but I suspect this is also a grey area).

If however someone else can clear this up either way, then QRP-Victoria (via the fast lines Victoria to Denmark Hill) is 5.75 miles. Note that via the Atlantic lines (ie calling at Battersea Park and Wandsworth Road) adds another quarter mile hence this would be more than 3 miles from the shortest route to London Bridge. Whether a SouthEastern RPI would really make something of this in the real world is another matter, though.

This is academic however if persons more learned than me believe that choosing Victoria as a London Terminal for QRP is appropriate. However, ATOC have recently published a list of Appropriate London Terminals for each station and for QRP only London Bridge is listed.

We then need to turn to the question of what easements Southern/LO may put in place to ensure that passengers are not unduly inconvenienced by the fothcoming closure. If wikipedia is correct (I haven't been following developments there that closely) all sections of the line will continue to have a service to either Victoria or London Bridge. Perhaps someone can say whether the Victoria to Bellingham service is definitely to happen?

If not, then in my personal view, it is wholly appropriate that passengers from South Bermondsey and Queens Road Peckham continue to be able to travel to Victoria (and stations en route) with a London Terminals ticket, which would perhaps be along the lines of "passengers from South Bermondsey to London Terminals may change at Clapham Junction for interchange purposes only". However, Southern/LO may not see it like that.

One for London Travelwatch perhaps?

I believe City Thameslink, Charing Cross etc. are all OK as you are allowed to continue to further London Terminals after reaching the first valid one (in this case London Bridge). The ATOC list of London Terminals (at least the version I posted in that old thread; I haven't checked if they have updated it) seems to have problems with stations that have London Group as an associated routeing point; it is only showing the shortest route (i.e. ignoring the 3 mile rule) and also ignoring the rule about continuing on to other terminals by National Rail services.

Victoria is a tricky one; I agree with the interpretation that we need to be looking at routes that are within 3 miles of the shortest route to the closest terminal, so 5.75 miles or less, and that it's cutting it very fine if you go via Clapham High Street, Wandsworth Road and Queenstown Road Battersea - although should be within the margin of error allowed by booking engines.

Lewisham to London Bridge is 4.25m while to Victoria is 7.5m according to table 200. There is no doubt that tickets to London are valid to either from any of the Dartford lines and only the Bexleyheath has direct trains to Vic.

Edit:

Charlton is even worse. 10.5m from Victoria vs 4.75m from London Bridge via Greenwich.

Considering Clapham High Street, Wandsworth Road and QRP won't have a direct service to Victoria at all from the winter timetable, it shouldn't be an issue whether a QRP passenger can change at Clapham Junction at least in addition to Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill. The frequent service to Victoria at Clapham Junction might be enough to persuade a passenger to stay on the ELLX instead of waiting 30 mins at the stations above for a Dartford to Victoria train.

A Clapham High Street or Wandsworth Road season ticket holder should be default be allowed to leave Clapham Junction as it'll be the nearest route to Victoria.

Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill season holders should also be allowed to travel via Clapham Junction considering they won't have a direct train to Victoria during evenings and Sundays.

I agree that in an ideal world bicbasher sets out things that LO ought to allow, however at present those posts are his opinion only and NOT something that daniels should take into account with his ticket buying decisions.

Didn't I make that clear then?

Does this also apply from Wandsworth Road/Clapham High Street to London Bridge, as those stations only have Victoria listed on the ATOC page of appropriate stations.

Thanks for all the posts. I am still none the wiser though!
The NR journey planner indicates that Nunhead to Victoria via Peckham Rye/Denmark Hill & Clapham Junction will be possible with a single ticket. However, using the season ticket 'mixing deck', no such routing is offered for an annual season ticket.

Best thing to do is check the National Routeing Guide as that's given as a definitive source of routing validity in the NRCoC, whereas online journey planners aren't.

I see they're getting rid of the £10.30 Zone 2 Only point to point season tickets on the SLL from the next fares change. Even if using Oyster PAYG (£1.70 each way at peak time,) £17 a week for a 5 day commute still represents a substantial increase in the cost of commuting, even before taking into account economies of scale when buying period/annual season tickets. The Zone 2-3 Travelcard will be £23.00.

Hopefully loyal users of the line will twig that they can use South Bermondsey as an origin instead to avoid the TfL levy. Not unpredictable practice by London Overground, but I wonder if they made the locals aware of this impending hike in the fares? I certainly haven't seen anything about it despite using the line on a regular basis.

They wouldn't. They will spin it in the name of "simplified fares". ;)

Is a Season between Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye (and PR to Queens Road Peckham) been scrapped too, this despite LO not being the primary TOC between those two stations?

No, not those particular fares. It appears to be between stations LO will operate on the SLL/WLL, plus Queens Road Peckham and Clapham Junction. At present there is a £10.30 or £11.80 7DS between all these stations in Zone 2 which at present, seem to be disappearing come January.

For example the Denmark Hill to Clapham Junction Any Permitted 7DS for £10.30 appears to be going, with the only season option being routed London Not Underground for £18.00.

As a result of this, London Travelwatch has consulted with ATOC and ensured that there will be a permitted route via Clapham Junction for South Bermondsey/Queens Road Peckham to Victoria tickets - with electronic routeing guide permissions being updated accordingly.

Brilliant news. Is there a source you can link to, please?
