Not entirely sure why Merseyrail would want to take on such a basket case operation especially as it goes outside Merseyside in Cheshire.
Yes I know Bache and Chester are also in Cheshire - but that route is logical operationally and commercially; Ellesmere Port / Helsby is not really either.
To work it with by 777 you'd need at least one more complete 777 overall to the fleet - plus quite a lot more 777/1 battery retro fitted.
A 230 shuttle might make more sense - but even then would it ever make a business case ?
Pretty sure these days of looking into reinstatements and alternative routes this one would have been done by now if it ever had a case.
Merseyrail and Cheshire West and Chester want to put the service from Ellesmere Port to Helsby back on, in fact they want it to go to Warrington Quay bank, but they were blocked by the previous Conservative government, the Local MP

Merseyrail and Cheshire West and Chester wants to reintroduce the Ellesmere Port to Helsby service, in fact they want to continue to Warrington Quay bank using battery trains, the Conservative government wouldn't support it, the local MP, Justin Madders got in touch with the department and sent me their reply, they said that the signalling and point work was too much which seems strange when there is a diesel Parlimentary service and fright traffic already using it. We will be pushing Justin to push the new government in supporting it, exspecially when there is a lot of people from Ellesmere Port and surrounding area driving to Helsby and trying to get a parking space in the small car park while Ellesmere Port has a large unused car park. People in Ince and Elton are completly cut off.
