Elizabeth Line Ticket Question

Hi All,

Next week I am traveling to London with an Advance ticket to "London Underground Zone 1-3", aiming to travel to either Ealing Common or Ealing Broadway. My question is, is this ticket valid to get to Ealing Broadway via a combination of Tube and Elizabeth Line, or do I need to stick to the Tube?

Owing to TfL‘s ridiculous situation with the Elizabeth line being either exclusively part of the Underground or exclusively National Rail for fares purposes depending on which section it is, your ticket is valid on the Elizabeth line as far west of Paddington, but not between Paddington and Ealing Broadway on the Elizabeth line.

Which probably means you’ll practically end up sticking to the Tube unless the Elizabeth line core between Paddington and Abbey Wood (which your ticket is valid upon) happens to be useful to connect your London arrival into the Central, District or Piccadilly lines.

Technically no, London Underground Zone tickets are only valid on the central section between Paddington and Abbey Wood/Liverpool Street, and therefore it wouldn’t be valid for travel towards Ealing Broadway past Paddington.

How enforceable this is is questionable, they cannot tell which way you plan on using the ticket at the Elizabeth Line barriers at Paddington, and the barriers at Ealing Broadway are not separate from the tube.

Your ticket is perfectly be excitable from Ealing Broadway, that's no issue.
Meanwhile, it's not enforceable as well even if having revenue officers onboard Elizabeth Line (by MTR) for the ticket in doubt as it's permissible to use NR connection to connect to a LU leg from Ealing Broadway to Ealing Common.

I am very confused what on earth this means, although I agree it’s unlikely to be enforced. However an outboundary to London Underground Zones Advance ticket is not valid on any National Rail service past the route it was issued for.

I can only think you’re thinking of out of station interchanges, which aren’t relevant here as they still cannot travel on the NR services.

I would say it is a yes unless it's routed otherwise. Your ticket is valid to travel on National Rail services into your chosen station in zone 1-3, for example, Ealing Broadway, and change to the underground afterwards for a single underground journey within zones 1-3. So if your ticket doesn't have any route or operator restrictions it's perfectly fine to use Ealing Broadway as the train/tube interchange station.
