Elephant & Castle to Woking

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a season ticket or find the best way of commuting (during peak times) from Elephant and Castle to Woking for a year.

I see on the season ticket calculator that there are two prices:

- £2,248.00 "Travel must NOT involve London."
- £2,668.00 "You must travel via London. Transfer between London Stations is available on the Docklands Light Railway and First Capital Connect (Thameslink Route) or by foot. Travel is not available on London Underground."

I'm guessing neither of these are really that great since by far the quickest way would actually be Elephant and Castle tube station to Waterloo tube station and then Waterloo direct non-stop rail service to Woking?

In which case am I better off buying a rail season ticket from Waterloo to Woking (London Terminals £2,444.00) and then Oyster card pay as you go to make up the tube travel? There isn't a cheap way to wrap up the rail and tube travel together is there?

Any help, clarification or alternative route suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Or a Zone 1-6 Travelcard at £3,020.00 - this gives a lot of extra flexibility being valid on all buses, tubes, trains, DLR etc within the Travelcard area (with very few exceptions eg HS1)

Is Woking covered in the zones? I'd assumed not and that I would need some form of separate rail season ticket to get outside London?

I'm trying to decide if the OP can get away with buying a Woking to South Merton season - on a season are you allowed to take a route involving double back as long as you stay on a routeing map?

I don't think so. My calculations are:

Woking (WOK) is a Routeing Point.
Routeing Points for South Merton (SMO) are Sutton London (SUO) and Wimbledon (WIM).
Fares check: WOK - SMO SDS Any Permitted £6.40, Clapham Jn £7.10.
WOK - WIM SDS Any Permitted £6.40, Clapham Jn £7.10. WIM passes.
WOK - SUO SDS Not London £8.10. SUO fails.
Only map for WOK - WIM is WX.
WX allows WOK - Surbiton - WIM only.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. There's no problem with doubling back within the validity of a season ticket because it can be used for unlimited travel. You can't double back in order to extend the its validity.
