Electrification to Swansea

Many politicians and other interested parties are calling for the electrification of the GW line as far as Swansea, claiming that it will benefit the economic future of Wales.

Can anyone point me to reliable figures / research on the cost / environmental implications of electrification please? A scholarly paper would be very helpful.
