I am struggling to find any sources for the cancelled DMU orders that occurred when GWML electrification was announced. Does anyone know where i could find them? Was it 200 carriages?

I don't think any were ever ordered, it was just a tendering process. You could try trawling the backnumbers of Modern Railways.

200 does ring a bell.

But no orders were ever placed, so none were cancelled!

Yes it was a proposed order but required to meet HLOS so there had to be a replacement option available before the proposed order could be pulled.

It was supposed to be split between 3 operators with Northern getting the most and FGW and TPE getting micro-fleets but that would have gone against moving towards standardised fleets.

Logically as there was to be an option for a further 100 or so carriages TPE would have cascaded their 170s to LM and got new trains as replacement and FGW's share would have gone to Northern and instead they would have got cascaded 158s from Northern instead of a micro-fleet of new trains.
