Stagecoach at Northampton have had electric saloons for a little while and now double decks have been introduced, as well. My 'moles' who work at the garage say that, because the charging wiring isn't complete they are all having battery charging by a diesel-electric generator.
Obviously only a stop gap, but is this unusual?
What's the rules about the fuel used - should it be white diesel with taxes paid (apart from the service bus rebate) or red?

It certainly isn’t unusual, as many depots have started charging their EVs using generators, due to the often lengthy delays in getting the necessary work done in order to get full grid connections in place.

Definitely not unheard of.

The usual suspects were vocal when Transdev had to use a generator for their electric buses in Harrogate. The issue then, as is often the case, is with utilities companies rather than the operator. You can wait (and store vehicles) or resort to this (and it’s not cheap either).
