Eventually, Central Scotland electrification plan will reach Dunblane. There is the outstanding issue with the Kippenross tunnel and rumour has it that it will be opened out in a similar way to the tunnel North of Dunblane at the Laighills park was opened out around 25 years ago.

There is also the outstanding issue with the Caledonian bridge at the station itself (I'd be surprised if it wasn't listed) - there isn't exactly much space under the bridge. The 30 year old blue bridge doesn't have much clearance either and isn't wheelchair friendly.

What are the chances that an aesthetically pleasing, and sympathetic Caledonian Style new bridge will be installed when electrifcation reaches Dunblane, ideally with lifts for mobility impaired users?

The very sympathetic installation of lifts at Stirling shows that Caledonian Style can be achieved using modern skills - you wouldn't really know that the lifts hadn't always been there.

Whether you get something modern or something sympathetic will probably depend on the environment of and around the station and local planning designations. If the station is listed or in a conservation area you'll get something nice, otherwise it could well be something cheap and cheerful like on A2B.

When the local Tesco was built (adjacent to the station), it was insisted that it would be built in Sandstone style blockwork and white rendering and be sympathetic to both the cathedral and the railway station...

So hopefully not too utilitarian.

Surely the 'loop' platform round the back at Dunblane can cope with the level of local stopper traffic? The lines under the old bridge won't even need to be wired up. Continuing the wires up into the headshunt should give sufficient flexibility for turning services around.

How do you know it is outstanding?
I would have thought that the electrification plan has already taken this into account, to either raise or replace the (what I assume is a foot)bridge?
Otherwise I suggest you contact Transport Scotland to obtain a copy of the project plan

Is it safe to assume that the work done on the SAK project to Alloa will have anticipated electrification, so that there should be no major obstacles on that branch? Certainly, the new bridges that were built are very high.

Unfortunately, the "satellite" mapping on google is quite old so it is unclear how many of the level crossings (many providing sole access to industry/farms) are still open. There were approximately 12 between Stirling & Alloa - not sure how many are left. Would a high LGV/HGV fit under the wires?

Quite a few were left in place. The main industrial site that accesses over the crossing is the large bonded warehouse complex- the lorries in and out are not "high" ones, as casks of whisky are fairly dense. The crossings in Alloa itself (including one that can be used as a route to the glassworks) used by more general traffic were replaced by bridges. Not sure what the maxiumum height from road to wires, and from there max vehicle height allowed, is for a new installation.

There are 3 CCTV crossings and a few UWC. I can think of 4 crossings that were closed completely or replaced by bridges.
