EE Type 3 Electrical?

Evening Gents, I am looking for any good information explaining the inside working of the class 37? Specifically the electrical systems? I am interested in early electrical and control systems and am interested in how the 37 was wired. I don't suppose there is any detailed sites with a 37 being overhauled that would document in detail the electric system of the type 3?

I'm currently away from home at the minute, but do have at home a copy of the Class 37 Line of Route, that explains some of the electrical system. Give me a shout in about 2 weeks if you want anything scanned

There are some general electrical diagrams in "Diesel Traction - Manual for Enginemen" published by British Railways in 1962. I have an original copy bought second-hand; it may have been reprinted as the 1957 one for Railway Steam Locomotive Enginemen was in 1977 and 1998 by Ian Allan.

Evening, What I am interested in is how the generator output was controlled? I know from my experience with certain generators that a ELC is used to divert power to a resistor dump load. I would assume the 37 would have had a electromechanical type voltage regulator since solid state electronics did not exist for such a high power generator? My second point of interest has to do with the controllers in the cab and the electrical cabin. Since the 37 was a DC system I am wondering what type of controls where used? I have been reading alot about vintage control systems like Medadyne and Amplidyne systems as of late. The LU used a Medadyne that weighed 3 tons on some of it's earlier stock. The controls later being fitted to a series of battery locos all of which have been scrapped.

Hi,

see my reply PM, which should help. The voltage from the auxiliary generator was indeed regulated by an electromechanical carbon pile AVR, though this was replaced with an electronic one in the refurb locos. Many preserved 37s have also had this upgrade..
