I know nothing about buses so I had to Google it but according to its website the service is 24/7 - every 10 mins from 0435-0022 and every 30 mins during the small hours. Will be interesting to see however, of course the other light rail / metro systems serving airports in the UK aren't 24/7, usually 05xx-00xx or so (Newcastle on the T&WM, London City on the DLR).

I think I read somewhere that at least part of the Metrolink line going to Manchester Airport will run throughout the night?

It still looks a long way off whatever the operating hours - what is the latest scheduled opening date ? - and where will all the traffic on Princes Street go to ?

Hi, could you provide a link to where that information may be had - I've looked again at the Edinburgh Trams website for it but the detail eludes me.

From http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20236/about_the_trams/1968/about_the_trams

Services for passengers are set to start running by Summer 2014. Ticketing is being worked on at present with Lothian Buses with an integrated ticketing system being developed.

All the traffic on Princes Street is buses, taxis and cyclists - last I heard, they'll still be there for the most part. The tramlines are laid either side of the central reservation just as the tracks for the original tram service were. This leaves space for traffic between the tracks and the pavement.

Sorry, I was talking about the current 100 bus service, not the trams ;)

I had quite a long telephone call with one of the senior management of the project who was quite intruiged that such a 24-hour operation was one that had been the subject for discussion, but said that it was not part of the current proposals.

He said that if any such proposal had been envisaged, it would most certainly have had such details contained on the information section on their website.

I understand it will be closed between 00:30 and 03:00 and the service between 03:00 and 03:59 may consist of only 2 trams in each direction but it'll be a 12 minute frequency for most of the day. So if that's correct then yes it runs through the night as you suggested but it won't be a 24 hour service.
