Edinburgh tram extension

I know it's early to talk about extending the line but I'm sure there will be demand for it to increase when it finally opens. Also in Dublin will they ever extend to the airport?

For extending in Edinburgh no doubt it would run to the Ocean Terminal shopping mall. Could they run it to South Queensferry to take in the new tourist attraction when they open it at the rail bridge?

I think the original plan was to have a northern circular route via Ocean Terminal, Granton and Crewe Toll.

There was also a proposal to build a line south Newcraighall via Cameron Toll.

Can't see it for a long time to be honest, after all the cost, disruption and general bad feeling.

IIRC the viewing platform will be on the north of the bridge.

The original 3-line plan could be revived, but given the massive cost-overruns and huge disruption building what they're getting has caused it's politically toxic to suggest extending the system.

Pity, as line 3 (out to the Royal Infirmary by way of Kings Buildings and Cameron Toll) would perhaps have been the most useful route.

If any extensions do happen it'll probably be Leith, seeing as most of the utilities work is done and it'll be easier to win over people on the route with ''all that disruption earlier will have been for something''.

Also in Dublin will they ever extend to the airport?

The intention is currently to construct a DART branch to the airport, seeing as Metro North isn't happening any time soon.

The line along York Place has been built to allow for future extensions to Leith, but I wouldn't get your hopes up for anything in the near future.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that.
The 24, which currently serves that route is pretty quiet the majority of the time (Stockbridge excepted), apart from a couple of busy journies in the peaks. But it's the only route I drive which has no rush buses - even the 36 has a couple.

Line three would also travel down an extremely busy road for most of the route. It would be the Leith Circular which would be first, unless it was extended to newbridge?
