I work on Trams down south, I've been here for donkeys years so I'm sure the recruitment process is very different to when I started. The way they recruit here is:
- Online application asking questions, depending on how many people apply the pass mark gets higher.
- Person is invited to assessment, they take numerous psychometric tests with people being sent home if they fail to pass.
- Next step is a driving test......just a drive in the company car with one of our Trainers who will assess your eyesight (checking numberplate from a distance), your ability to follow instruction and whether you get distracted etc.
- Final step is interview with maybe 2 or 3 Managers.
I'm not sure what the questions are other than what do you know about the tram system (probably best not to mention the debacle about spiralling costs etc). What are your expectations of the job, why do you want to be a driver, what can bring to the company. Just remember safety, safety, safety and customer service!
I'm sure there's more, just remember to relax, smile, answer as honestly as you can, be keen to learn and listen. If you don't understand a question, ask for clarification. Good luck. I love driving trams but it's a very safety orientated environment when you're sharing the road with other vehicles, cyclists pedestrians and animals! You will be trained to scan with your eyes and be able to see everything at once which is so important when you have to stop on a dime!
