If time is important to you LNER are a lot quicker.Hi there, I’m looking at travelling from Edinburgh all the way to London. I’m hoping someone can help me decide whether I should travel with Avanti West Coast or LNER in first class. From previous experience I would say Avanti are a lot better than LNER, however k am willing to give them another go. So which should I choose?

I’m guessing it’s 90 minuets longer as all the Edinburgh services go via the West Midlands?Personally I value my time far higher than some mediocre onboard food, but if that is the focus then Avanti has better seats as well as a largely better food offering. Picking a random Wednesday 4 weeks out, Avanti will charge you £30 more, and take 90 mins longer.

Thank you very much! I feel well informed now!If going on Avanti, I would recommend trying to book via Glasgow if time is not much of an issue.
You’ll get access to the new lounge in Glasgow (which has a much better offering than LNER’s Edinburgh lounge) and you’ll get a direct service which is non-stop from Warrington.
You could also swap onto the direct service from Glasgow by changing at Carlisle. This would have you wait for 40 minutes (roughly) at Carlisle, but would get you into Euston slightly earlier. The benefit of this is you’re likely to get food leaving Edinburgh and then another food offering leaving Carlisle!
You’ll also get access to the Euston lounge on arrival which, in my opinion, is the best first class lounge in the country.

Yes, if you want a direct service, you will go via the West Mids.
