Edinburgh to Ledbury

Hi all,

I'm trying to price a return journey from Edinburgh to Ledbury, leaving the 21st December and coming back the 30th. The trick - I very much do not want to travel on a Pendolino, I feel exceptionally cramped, it's worse than a budget airline, and the fact that there's never enough luggage space and so I wind up with a suitcase at my feet really doesn't help.

TrainSplit seems to be having exceptional trouble finding me a reasonable fare that avoids VTWC (despite excluding them, it keeps spitting out VTWC journeys) - can anyone help out?

Would you use one of the VTWC Voyagers from Glasgow (the 1002 departure)? The luggage space might even be worse, but it could give you the option you need. I would probably go on an XC HST via the east coast if they run from that far north.

If it was me I'd go via Kings Cross and Paddington on direct services with extra time in London for snacks, coffee and general peace of mind. E.g. Edinburgh 1230-1651 Kings Cross/Paddington 1922-2235 Ledbury & Ledbury 1231-1536 Paddington/Kings Cross 1730-2156 Edinburgh. Advances total £142.50 & splash out on a taxi in London. Nice and easy and, I believe, all HST & Mk4.

The 1231 Ledbury to Paddington is booked to be a class 166 normally. Another option would be Edinburgh to Manchester on a TPE class 350, Manchester to Hereford on an Arriva Trains Wales class 175, then London Midland 170/153/150 or GWR 166/HST to Ledbury.

I thought the lunchtime service from Ledbury was 166 midweek but an HST on Saturdays. It wouldn't matter though as neither gives off any claustrophobic airs.
