Edinburgh Suburban Railway

Last night I was travelling on the 21:22 Motherwell to Edinburgh Waverley. I had previously noted there was no call at Haymarket but I thought nothing of it. I was very surprised to find myself using the Edinburgh Suburban Railway to approach Edinburgh Waverley from the east. I was unaware this route was actively used to route passenger services. Was this service a one-off to retain route knowledge? Or do passenger services regularly use the Edinburgh Suburban Railway?

I did do a forum search for this topic prior to posting and I found nothing recent. Sorry in advance if this has been discussed before.

My understanding was that this particular train goes this way every day? Or at least, Monday - Friday

I've been a few that have run on the South Sub over the years, all planned or unplanned diversions. A whole week's worth of Edinburgh-Glasgow shuttles one year when there had been flooding in Princes Street Gardens is the last one I remember.

I wasn't aware of regularly scheduled stuff though, thanks for highlighting.

By looking at and posting the link to Real Time Trains you've already
answered your own question. The dates of operation on the schedule would tell you if it was regular.

answered your own question. The dates of operation on the schedule would tell you if it was regular.

I wouldn't think it was just for route knowledge as they have at least one ECS movement around the Sub every weekday morning.
