Edinburgh Penzance via London Advice Please

I have a friend who wants to go over a period of a month or two from Edinburgh to Penzance and return. He wants to go via London with break of journey on out ward and return leg. He hopes to go into Lincolnshire from Peterborough perhaps. On his return he would like to go to Gloucester. Is an any time return Edinburgh to Penzance via London a suitable ticket with returns from say Peterborough to Lincoln and Bristol to Gloucester?
Would a return from Edinburgh to London and then London to Penzance be better? Advances are not suitable for him. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

With an anytime return the outward journey must be completed within 5 days and the return within one month, so it is unlikely to be a suitable ticket for a journey "over a period of a month or two".

Does your friend intend to make six separate journeys on different days?

• Edinburgh to Lincoln
• Lincoln to London
• London to Penzance
• Penzance to Gloucester
• Gloucester to London
• London to Edinburgh.

It would help us to determine the best combination of flexible tickets if you could tell us, if Edinburgh to Lincoln is on day 1, roughly on which day each leg will take place.

Will your friend travel alone? Is he aged under 26, aged 55-59, over 59 or does he have a relevant disability?

I cant give much more information at present but I don't think the return has to go via London
