Edinburgh - Leeds cheap option

To save a bit of cash on travelling from Edinburgh - Leeds is there anyway I can filter out the XC options when the next valid connection at York would be an XC service.

My example the 0708 Edinburgh - Leeds service departs york at 0944.

Current price is £87.00 for a standard single (the off-peak return which is valid on this train is £81.70 :roll or £136 for first class.

I could use the 0700 Edinburgh - York (which arrives service and change at 0934)
Current price to York is £28.05 Standard and £33.80 first class.

I can't get a price for Leeds as it connects into the XC service, but why the XC price is heavy premium for a worse train with very little facalities on it!

Incidently the 0708 XC service to York is £35 standard or £85 return, talk about shafting the people wanting to travel to Leeds.

I guess if there is no way of getting an East Coast and connections I will just get a single from Leeds - York!

There should be - I went to Edinburgh last week from Sheffield on a "EC + CONNECTIONS" ticket. Changed at Doncaster.

Just looked for 30th November and the 0800 departure gets into York at 1027, you then have a 13 minute wait for a TPE service - all that costs £35.50.

I think the problem is I am changing onto the XC train, somehow I need to extend the time at York to change onto the next TPE or Northern service, that is the bit I haven't worked out yet on either trainline powered or East Coasts website.

I can do it if he change is directly onto a TPE train such as if I had gone for the 0800.

As per my example above, however I dont think you noticed my edit before you replied!

I dont think you can filter out a certin operators website, maybe its something you can do by ringing them up instead?

Thanks, should have made myself more clear I need to be on the 0700 - the 0800 would get me in too late for my meeting.

mytrainticket.co.uk will sell you a £35.50 single (+90p booking fee) on the 0700 changing at York.

Try booking the advance on the EC 0700 EDB-NCL on the eastcoast website. It's currently @£9.80 (or £18.50 1st class). Then change onto the XC following suit at NCL, splitting at DHM. Anytime XC only tickets are £3.10 NCL-DHM and £22.30 DHM-LDS, which total £36.20 and get you into Leeds at 1008.

That's the best I manage. I'm sure someone will come up with better ideas.

I was going to suggest via Appleby (there is a ticket from Glasgow, not Edinburgh, but tickets from Glasgow are valid via Edinburgh providing no doubling back is done) but given that constraint, that won't work.

If you want to extend the wait time use the 'text only' option on East Coast can work, there is an option to 'extend station change time' however I didn't have much luck with it.

The only option I could find to arrive before 1045, is to get the 0550, priced at £22.70 to Leeds. You could specify via Harrogate to not be booked on any particular train between York & Leeds. (East Garforth can be useful too)

Thanks everyone. Job sorted. Queue jump used to have 2 options perfect for this situation. Avoid XC trains or extend connection time.

I don't know how xc can sell an ap single that costs more than the return valid on said train. I just hope the don't sell any. The cynic would say the are trying to use simplification and hope people don't expect the off peak return to be valid!

Are you sure about this? I can't find any permitted map combination that would allow a Glasgow to Leeds journey via Edinburgh and Appleby.
