Edinburgh - Glasgow using XC only

I am planning a day trip to Edinburgh in late September. I have managed to find a good price for a return ticket from Glasgow to Edinburgh using XC, question is, the XC service leaves Edinburgh at 17.11 due Glasgow at 18.16. My train back down to Warrington is the 18.40 Ex Glasgow. Is 24 mins an accepted time for connection time to allow for the 18.40. I will be using Megabus tickets from Glasgow to Warrington so dare not miss the train.

I agree.
You're right that it is a big station, but it only takes so long to walk off one platform, pass the destination boards to find where you need to be next (which is likely to be one of the lower numbered platforms - at the east side of the station), and then hop on to your next train.

I'd say 4 minutes is enough. With 24 I hope you take the opportunity to admire some of the architecture on the upper level of the concourse (and maybe have a look back up at the station's beautiful windows from Argyll Street!

Taking into account you first return leg is running to time you have enough time for connections. As a contingency just incase would you not be betterr looking at a open return, as a precaution in case of this and also looking at time of next train in case this happen s

Be careful though - the Megatrain terms and conditions do not make any specific reference to guaranteeing travel if you're delayed on a different, inbound train.

Remember that only the Advance ticket TnCs (and the NFM Advance Fares FAQ) are the only documents that enshirine the right to travel on later trains due to earlier delays - not the NRCoC.

You have 24 mins connection time, but the recovery time on XC makes it closer to 31 mins

Thank you all for your replies however I am still left in doubt if the XC is the best train to catch as doing further checks I discover that this train is the 06.28 from Penzance. I can see that this train has plenty of opportunity to lose time before reaching Edinburgh. I think for complete piece of mind I will arrange an other train probably Scotrail.

Not with a X/C Only ticket you cant. If you get a Scotrail train be prepared to pay the full SDS to Glasgow. £12.30 each i think it is.

Today the 1711 was on time, but the 1511, originated from Plymouth, was 13 late leaving Edinburgh, but only 1 late arriving at Central.

Plenty of padding I see.
