Somebody jumped off a bridge at Huntingdon earlier too. It was all cleared before the line reopened though.
There was a report from someone saying someone had jumped, but they had not. No one was on the line.

Up fast services will have high speed coasting.

LNER saying on social media that there's no up services calling at Stevenage until Sunday morning (down services unaffected).

No capacity to put the ones that would otherwise stop into platform 1?

The 2300 London to York was cancelled. Does anyone know what happened with the York passengers?

"Customers are advised to join the 23:33 LNER service to Leeds.
Customers travelling to York will be provided road transport from Doncaster."

In the end, the 23:33 Leeds easily made the heavily delayed 1N35 at Peterborough, so pax could use 1N35 to York anyway (and would have arrived at 02:39, 71 late, thus getting their delay repay as a bonus).

There is the fear that when they slow to cross from up fast to up slow, that they would potentially slow trains down in rear and put them at risk of not been at correct speed for the high speed coasting.

Couldn’t the services calling at Stevenage switch to the slow line at Hitchin to avoid this potential problem?

Congestion may still be an issue. When you look at the trains at the top of the hour it could mess up Digswell nicely if anything went wrong.

No. The damage is north of Stevenage station, unsure how long the isolated section is. But even Hitchin the trains may not be up to required line speed, I’m sure if that was possible they would be doing so.

I interpreted the post as meaning that the trains would join the slow line north of Hitchin stations and then stay on the slow. Which of course means they will get tangled up with GTR services stopping at Hitchin. I am correct in thinking the slow is operating normally? Not seeing significant delays on services stopping at Welwyn Garden City this afternoon.

Another question, How long does it take to fire up the bi-modes? The Lincoln / Harrogate services could run on Diesel (I suspect it isn’t that simple)

The trains slowing to go up fast to up slow at Hitchin, would impede electric services running behind them, they need to be at line speed for the high speed coasting, services are lowering pantograph 4 signals south of Hitchin.
Bimode are running diesel Peterborough to Kings Cross.

OK thanks, So if they were to move to the slow it would need to be much further north, so more risk of delay for the stopper. So not really worth it.

The same consideration is applying with the Kings Lynn-Kings Cross trains. These normally come round the curve off the branch at 40mph and cross to the fast line at Hitchin South, sometimes resulting in signal checks for trains coming up the fast line from the Peterborough direction. From what I can see it appears that the Kings Lynn-Kings Cross trains are staying on the slow line to Woolmer Green so that they don't impede trains that need to coast on the fast line.

High speed coasting isn't ideal if it can be avoided. Using the available diesels seems wise to me.
Makes sense, I was thinking if its deemed fine for the electric only trains then why not, but I guess if it's still got a less than ideal amount of risk then it's worth the diesel

Is there a reason for these not to coast too?
After coming off the branch, and crossing to the fast can they get up to full speed before coasting starts?

Also when they cross to the fast lines there's the risk that the trains could slow down a following train just before it needs to start coasting.

I thought that referred to 80x bimodes on the mainline rather than anything off a branch/crossing lines (my geography round there may be wrong), for anything off a branch diesel definitely makes sense

Is there temporary lineside signage installed to remind drivers of where to lower / raise the pantograph?

Yes. There’s a warning sign, a lower pantograph sign and a raise pantograph sign.
Drivers also get a GSMR broadcast from relevant signaller, and certain TOCS also issue paperwork at stations to drivers with all details in.

There was a guy at the business end of Peterborough platform 3 yesterday giving paperwork to the handful of LNER drivers I saw that stopped there.
