Looks like the ECML is blocked at Granthouse due to flooding, no trains north from Newcastle.
Initially single line working was put in place, but then 1E02 reports water above Rail head. So all lines blocked.

Very heavy rainfall on the northern east coast last couple of days.
And the preceeding weeks, look at this: https://assets.publishing.service.g...ow_summary_9_November_to_15_November_2022.pdf

Page 2 and 43 particularly.

EDIT (to provide summary):
A Met Office report showing graphics of the country with the North East having received >40mm of rain in several weeks in October. Page 3 shows the two measured rivers in the NE (Tyne and Wear) as Above normal or notably high.

How is this looking? Terminal for the day, or do we think some of the afternoon services may run?

I'm looking on RTT, and all the services appear live still, does anyone have insight as to why they are not saying cancelled?

The 10:00 appears to have left Edinburgh at 10:13 and is proceeding slowly according to RTT, though no reports on it for nearly 20 minutes. A couple of others have since left Edinburgh. So they are obviously hoping to get it through and get things running again. It's now dry along the Berwickshire/Northumberland coast so hopefully things will improve during the day.

Looking at Traksy it looks like single line running on the down is occurring again. Up still showing as shut.

Thanks for the update.

Up being, EWAV to KGX, right?
Correct, 1E10 does appear to have made it through.

The exact flood location appears to be just around Penmanshiel (what 3 words of ///harsh.coasting.keys) based of the pictures i have seen

Rainfall radar is still showing heavy rain between Haddington and Berwick so not looking good, Green/Yellow is Rain, Orange/Red is heavy rain, dark red is torrential and the white flecks are 'Biblical', i.e 4 inches/100mm per hour or more

Just saw that, 1E10 showing as 53L sitting at Grantshouse.

I'm wondering if id be better just going WCML today.

I would suggest that might be the better idea, nothing leaving Newcastle heading north at the mo. A couple of services are approaching the loop at Drem with 1E12 already in the Up Loop and 1E84 approaching Drem. I assume they were awaiting reports from 1E10 which is at Grantshouse.

Lines have just gone back to both showing SHUT on traksy now so i doubt there will be much movement through there anytime soon.

Just stopped raining here in Dunbar. Been super heavy most of the week so not surprised there's flooding

NR just posted some pictures, drainage at Grantshouse is just overwhelmed. Unreal images. The line is open one way according to the tweet.

In the end I think 3 services have made it through southbound from Edinburgh: the 05:47 103 minutes late at Newcastle and 109 at Kings Cross; the 10:00, 112 minutes late at Newcastle and currently between Durham and Darlington; and the 11:00, currently 159 minutes late at Pegswood (nr Morpeth). The 11:19 left Edinburgh but looks like it was turned around at Dunbar and has just passed through Musslebrough on its way back to Edinburgh.

I don't think any have northbound services have even attempted it.

I was very lucky when I travelled from Aberdeen (0952) to Newark Northgate yesterday, we were on time to Edinburgh then had to travel slowly until Berwick, losing around 20 mins.
Tuesday was a very wet day, Thursday was very wet and also very windy so no surprises about the closures today.

Any info on whether the northbound line is likely to reopen by later tomorrow morning? I was booked on 1S20 from Peterboro to Edinburgh today, but given all the alternatives are either closed for other reasons or would rely on TransPennine, I decided not to set out...

As I wrote above, Network Rail advise the line will not reopen until midday tomorrow.

Extremely long queues at Newcastle, both inside and outside of station for rail replacement buses. There's a queue for the queue, and both seem to be in the hundreds. Luckily I'm going south, but looks tough on travellers and staff alike

Sorry I'd not seen that bit of your post, thanks for repeating. Won't be rushing to set out too early tomorrow morning!
There is a service departing north as far as Berwick, in diesel operation as OHL also isolated.

I would suggest keep checking twitter (if you use it), as things can change

Thanks. I might just have to try to open a twitter account (at the moment when lots of people are abandoning it...!)

I got on to the XC to Newcastle and sat there for a few mons whilst I read the above news, around 3pm, and quickly concluded I better get off and head for the Crewe train.

In hindsight im grateful for the updates, otherwise, instead of making it to GLC tonight, id be in those ques in Newcastle.

The chances of me getting back to the shire tonight however, are nil. HML shut. ECML shut North of Edinburgh. A90, shut.

Yet again, on nearly the 1st anniversary of Arwen, its about as easy to get to the shire as it is Orkney.

I think it is important to add the words "at least" to the start of that. NR have stated they will not be able to assess the extent of works required until the water has subsided and they have daylight tomorrow morning.

Network Rail and LNER now reporting that the line may be open for tomorrow morning:-

We are working with Network Rail to get things back up and running and all lines are expected to reopen again tomorrow morning to allow our trains to run normally on Saturday 19 November.

Any update on rail replacement buses at Newcastle? I will be arriving there in an hour and hoping to get to Alnmouth. There's a service bus at 21:28 but it takes two hours.
