LNER tweeting at 12.32 p.m. today as follows...

Definitely seems to be causing problems.

Extract...
#LNERUpdate Due to minor damage to the overhead electric wires between #Darlington and #Newcastle, services are subject to delays when passing in the surrounding area.

@Class 317. Where are you hoping to get from / to, and are you on a specific (booked) train?

Up line has reopened at 20mph initially and then 50mph one the damaged down line OHL has been earthed.

Bidirectional working from Durham to Birtley Junction. With all services in diesel mode initially.

1E11 and 1E13 currently living south, then 1S09 and 1S10 will head north bi-di.

1E79 is also in the area - cancelled at Durham according to RTT:

...but it's actually stuck on the down line at Chester-le Street station according to my signalling maps! o_O

It is starting a set back move to Durham, but can’t until 1S09 and 1S10 have moved North. This will happen after 1E13 is through the area.

Update - it’s currently at Chester le Street station.

Yes - they appear to be letting other trains behind us overtake. 1E16, 1V64 and 1E17 are heading south via the Down line.
It is blocked to Electric traction at the moment and only diesel can pass the damaged area. Best to hold you there rather than using a platform at Newcastle.

Services should be able to move very shortly in electric mode passed the area.

What exactly has caused the damage to the overhead wires? I've had a day out walking in Durham and there's been no adverse weather; quite the reverse, itt been a warm and (partially) sunny day.

I'm on 12:00 Kings X to Inverness to Aviemore.
Think you're now going to be getting a free, if somewhat heavily delayed, ride! Although, hopefully the service won't now be terminated short of its final destination.

The one good thing which hopefully means the service runs to destination, is the southbound service from Inverness departs about 90 mins later on a Sunday morning that on other days, so a bit of flexibility with the drivers/TM hours.

Currently pulling in to Newcastle.
Guard suggest it will run to Inverness but we'll see!

Will this all be ok for tomorrow? There's a lot of panicky Leeds fans worried about getting to Wembley. I know the Leeds trains are not directly affected but there is always knock-on impact. And lots of fans travelling from Doncaster, York, Northallerton etc

4 hour repair planned over night, with lines handed back at line speed for start of service Sunday.

Shambolic at Durham at the moment. It's supposedly single line working between Durham and Chester-le-Street yet in the past hour 8 trains included 3 freights have gone North but absolutely nothing seems to be running Southbound. The one member of platform staff on duty ran away and hid about an hour ago and hasn't been seen since so no one knows what's going on
