Is the slw on the up? Does 1H10 have an issue?
Nothing wrong with 1H10, but ridiculous amount of time taken for services to pass through single like working section.

Just 9 trains to sift through in the area now, slowly but surely everything is getting there. Putting things into context, 1S28 was meant to be in Edinburgh an hour back and is only just passing Retford at 256 late!

Terminated at Newcastle 01:30 only 281L.

Lumo 1S99 20:27 KGX - EDB terminated at 03:52 running 185L. 23 mins after the sleeper arrived (which left London 45mins after 1S99 and of course runs WCML!)

Some horrifying stories on Twitter. Haven’t heard from my boss but at least his train made it to York - at 03:27.

One of the southbound trains was terminated at Retford gone 1am. Into sub-zero temperatures where they had to wait for (reportedly) half an hour for the train behind. As everything was routing through Platform 2 in both directions that was a big problem. Driver reportedly over hours - fine , get that. Safety issue. But crush loading a platform at 1am in -2 temps is lunacy.

To be fair to the staff from LNER and NR it looks like they have done everything they can try keep things running albeit with disastrous delays.

0713 Lumo from Newcastle to Kings Cross cancelled this morning as well as many other services-Newcastle bit of a shambles this morning .Advised to go on next Lumo but no (compulsory) reservations all day which they must know already, so had to suffer their hopelessly convoluted refund claim procedure. Why can’t it be a one click from booking reference -they have all your details already?
LNER and NR do a decent job when things go wrong but unfortunately it’s now a one fault rail system with no resilience and that’s no good going forward.

Looks like the set off 1N35 which terminated at Newcastle at 0500 had been left in Platform 3 when I passed through this morning. I assume there was a bit of a dearth of anyone available to take it to Heaton.

Agreed above that chucking everyone off at Retford (and then starting to send things through northbound) didn't seem wise or pleasant. You'd ideally want another southbound through afterwards to scoop everyone up - it's hardly a great place to wait at the best of times on Platform 2.

Still - everyone on a train which left will have got to where they needed to be. I'd imagine there's quite a few things to untangle set placement-wise.

Off topic a bit, what happens to driving these trains, the bulk must take their crew beyond their hours but both the crew and passengers would be keen to have the train go on as far as is practical. Is there an easement of hours?

Drivers and Train managers who go over 12 hours, have a document completed by control, signed off by duty manager, stating that they have breached ‘hidden rules’.

If they are due on shift the following day, they will book on shift later than normal after having the required rest period.

Thanks. I'm intrigued by hidden rules and to my shame I was thinking only of drivers. With silent apologies to all train managers.

I think (open to correction) that should be "Hidden rules" (capital H).

Sir Anthony Hidden chaired the enquiry into the Clapham train crash in 1988, where excessive working hours were found to be a contributory factor. Limits on working hours were one of its recommendations.

Seen quite a few morning cancellations, as expected. I’ve noticed 1H01 and 1A91 have been routed via the joint line, so repairs must not be fully complete yet, but understandably it must be quite a bit job.

So if I am reading this right, Kings Cross was shut as normal overnight. Despite 5 heavily delayed trains arriving into it. Multiple sources (with pictures) reporting being locked into the station on arrival. Then thrown out by security to find nothing available. No taxis, no staff etc.

GC has cancelled quite a few service this morning, 1A59, 1A60, 1N90, 1D91. 1A61 is likely cancelled, yet to leave Sunderland. Same with 1A70, which is yet to leave Bradford.

Hand Back was expected at 10:00, as possession was taken about 03:30.

Just as an aside - there cannot have been many instances over the years of serious OLE damage where the train involved was a diesel.

I wonder why no LNER trains went via Swinderby? The mail trains did with diesel haulage between Doncaster and Newark.
No drivers with the route knowledge at the time, if they could , they would have.

I don't envy the engineers fixing the wires in last nights temperatures!
Yes, horrible conditions including freezing fog. Hope they were wrapped up warm.

Are 802s capable of extended runs on the single diesel engine? How big is the fuel tank?

A couple did, both northbound being the 1603 kgx to Leeds diverted at Peterborough and I think the 1903 did from Newark

LNER don't have 802s.

801s on limited traction have the range to divert, however they would have been terminated as a first preference.

Ive done about 40 miles on it and it's possible to go further - it's just not done unless there isn't much choice.

802s are Hull trains which have multiple engines.

They would never divert an 8012xx Around the joint line. Not going to happen.

A 5 car 801 coupled to a 5 car 800 and yes they could/would divert.

Yet are quite happy sending them out when OLE issues are occurring despite having 800s available. That was a very entertaining conversation.

Why drivers don't know key diversoniary routes in this day and age is a disgrace.

Both TOCs and FOCs have been reducing route knowledge for years.

LNER is one of the better ones for knowing diversionary routes. Happy to be corrected but I think only Leeds and Doncaster LNER cldrivers sign the Joint Line, Newcastle and London drivers do not. Some London guards used to sign the Joint Line but not 100% if they still do.

Ah, never crossed my mind that it might be a proper noun.

GC has had an IT issue so is struggling to reply to customer queries has kind of thrown in the towel for today due to train crew being in the wrong area and OLE faults.. Although they have ticket acceptance with Avanti between Euston and Piccadilly and then with TPE, Northern and XC but not LNER or HT.

Not exactly correct. They have stated the IT issue has delayed messages being sent out.

They have not been cancelling trains due to an IT issue.

Should have phrased it better, I know that GC isn't cancelling services due to the IT issue, its due to train crew being in the wrong area and issues with the OLE.
