I'm aware there is disruption due to ohl Issues at New Barnet, I'm awaiting to pick some up from the north at Darlington and a line of trains stuck at Aycliffe Cross overs with more trains joining the queue.

Also a queue of trains at Darlington heading north.

Anyone of aware of the issues Darlington/Aycliffe area?

I'm stuck in the queue heading south. We've been told it's electric supply issues with the southbound line out of use. All services using the northbound line.

Bit of sunshine and everything falls apart.
Hope you are not stuck too long.
Edit looks like a southbound about to be given route wrong line to Platform 1

There's two more to go before us......the delay repay will cover a fish supper, so long as it's still open when I get home!

The voyager ahead of us has run on the correct line so OHLE/traction supply problems look confirmed.

We're now moving (1806), correct line. TM suggests there's still some issues with the OHLE that may impede normal progess, but at least we're moving. nothing queueing behind us seems to have followed.

Getting off at Darlington it sounded like a diesel was running, and subsequently stopped, on one of the carriages, could we have used the 'emergency' diesel engine to get past the failed section?

What has been difficult in this part of the world recently has been very large diurnal temperature ranges, sometimes exceeding 20C.

It is difficult to have OHL adjusted for <5C and >25C at the same time.

Just at York now, delays and cancellations left, right and centre...

As a whole, we've got far too relaxed about how frequently these all day mass disruption events keep happening and we're happy to keep making excuses for the railway and pretend these things don't happen.

Between the WCML and ECML it's an almost gautenteed weekly event and it really isn't good enough.

Austria, Switzerland and others seem to cope.

Issue in that area was due to electrical supply issues with electric trains initially running wrong line southbound from Ferryhill South Jn to Darlington. This was subsequently stopped and trains were requested to run on GUs or diesel engines. The exception was the IC225 set on the 1827 off Newcastle.

With it being the Friday before a Bank Holiday (and before an engineering block) there hasn't been the flexibility to start cancelling things as trains are required in specific locations and it's generally been sufficiently busy to command as many services moving as possible.

Thats well within the range of auto tensioning equipment and why fixed tension was abandoned 70yrs ago.

Update, I left York 30 minutes late on an XC that has lost a further 30 minutes during the journey and now moving to the rear part of the train as the front part is being detached at Derby despite being told it was the other way around at York and throughout the journey...

And prior to that, I had the pleasure of a TPE 802 with collapsed seat bases.

Train journeys just aren't enjoyable any more, it's crap.

I was on the 1327 Lner Ncl to Kgx yesterday, we came to a stop not long after leaving Durham, after quite a while, tm made an announcement that the driver is starting up the diesel engine, we then ran quite slow down to Darlington where the driver switched back to electric before releasing the doors, ended up getting to Kgx 70 mins late so got the whole journey refunded, no complaints from me!

I was due to travel from Lincoln yesterday morning, but due to the electrical fault between Peterborough and Kings Cross, all morning journeys were cancelled. This is not an uncommom situation during times of disruption and I accept that things can happen, but as this service is operated exclusively by bimode units why is it cancelled due to electrical supply problems.

They have to thin the service out past the affected area, they concentrate on the core Leeds/Edinburgh services to maximise passenger numbers being moved.

Also with Lincoln services the Train managers sometimes change on route at Grantham I think (or used to) so it becomes hard with late running services to keep crew on correct service.

It's probably to do with thinning services out, those that are going further afield. However, the Lincoln service is quite often the first sacrifice during disruption or stock shortage.

It happens at the other end as well. The extensions to Bradford, Harrogate and (sometimes) Skipton from Leeds will get knocked if the turnaround time is lost. In extremis, the service from Leeds will turn into a Leeds-Doncaster shuttle, though I haven't seen that happen recently outside of strike action.

Yes that makes sense as they tend to only be 5-car units and special stop orders can be easily arranged along with a RR bus for the short hop from Newark to Lincoln.

I can see your reasoning, but the bimodes can use the Hertford loop and as the Lincoln service no longer calls at Stevenage that should not effect anything, and with 45 mins recovery time at Lincoln there seems no reson to cancel unless the stock is used elsewhere.

It’s often just to ‘thin the service out’ at times of disruption. Also traincrew may be booked a PNB in that 45 minutes which would further hamper service recovery.

Basically in situations like this there is an agreed contingency plan between NR and all TOCs.

Depending what the blockage/restriction is, dictates what contingency plan to implement.

In that plan it will tell TOCS which trains will run, and which will not.
