I’m currently on 1A30 and we’ve stopped at Newark Northgate station, which is an unscheduled stop, due to failure of the electricity supply further down the line between Grantham and Peterborough. Currently, all lines are blocked. Doors have been released for pax to stretch their legs here.

Third party power supply works are apparently the cause of this, which has caused a power outage affecting the signalling. Not sure it has affected the OLE as well.

I have family expecting to be on the 16:00 Kings Cross to Aberdeen service but disruption cancelled the previous train due to a problem with the electricity supply between Peterborough and Grantham. How bad is the problem and will their train be severely affected?

Delays are still around an hour or more and their journey is likely to be affected. No idea what cancellations or otherwise are happening.

The last southbound train in the backlog, 1E14 https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C46914/2024-07-29/detailed 12:00 Edinburgh-King's Cross is now approaching the problem area approximately 20 minutes late. There is a bit of a queue for a platform at Peterborough but trains are now moving towards King's Cross. There will be residual delays for a while yet though.

Services around the Tallington area (north of Peterborough) are being talked past several minutes. The Up line TO London seems the most affected, however all services through that area will experience delay due to congestion.

I counted around 5 trains which were quested back to back at each signal section, awaiting a path into Peterborough.

National Rail Enquiries are advertising delays of up to 90 minutes. Current delays seem to be anywhere between 30-60 minutes.

Unfortunately there has now been yet another fatality between Stevenage and Kings Cross. All lines currently blocked.

Thameslink are also dealing with a major points failure in the Kentish Town area on the Midland Mainline. The handful of northbound services running at the moment are starting from West Hampstead - not a good evening for GTR.

I'm on the 19:30 Euston-Glasgow. Was on the boards that LNER tickets are being accepted, although there's no onward trains from Glasgow to Edinburgh or indeed pretty much anywhere else.

As an aside, Stevenage-Kings Cross seems to be becoming a bit of a hotspot for fatalities recently. Is that sadly the case, or am I just paying the area more attention than previously? I'd like to hope the answer to that question is "neither" but of course that's sadly impossible.

It seems to be heading that way. LNER would do well to make sure that they have useable access to the whole Hertford Loop, with crew training etc. (also it would be useful as an extra access route to Bounds Green depot).

There have been spells when the likes of Euston- Milton Keynes, Paddington-Reading, and Liverpool Street-Shenfield have similarly and sadly had a few such incidents in relatively quick succession but I don't think that any statistical or other significance can be attributed.

I’ve noticed this too. I think there’s been three now in this location, in less than a week?

The GWML is unfortunately experiencing the same this evening, with a fatility at Hayes and Harlington.

Looking at Traksy, Signal maps RTT etc. some services are being spun at Peterborough, with everything south of Peterborough at a stand at Huntingdon, St Neots, Sandy etc.
Likewise everything travelling north is at a stand at Stevenage, Kings Cross and New Barnet.
Services to Cambridge seem to be running but heavily delayed and on the National Rail website it is advising GN and Thameslink customers do not travel.

CSL2 Code Black has now been issued.

LNER are not expecting any services to or from Kings Cross for the remained of the day, due to the nature of the incident.

ℹ️ We are not anticipating any services running out or into #LondonKingsCross for the remainder of the day.

️Customer with tickets dated 29th July may use their existing tickets on LNER services up to and including the 30th July.

Thameslink need to declare code Black as well as whole service has pretty well gone through the core and as usual the whole South side is just abandoned nothing being spun at London Bridge despite all the signalling to do so. Just as well its a Monday.

Hertford loop is irrelevant to tonight’s disruption as the incident is just north of Hitchin.

The southern end of the ECML has had relatively high incidence of people being hit by trains for a long while.

I finished commuting more than a decade ago and it was an issue then. Once we had 4 incidents in a week at various locations.

Very sad but this is one of the reasons the ECML is a last resort for me now for any journeys to London I need to make. That and OHL issues. That section does seem to have a proportionally higher rate of such incidents for some reason

That’s relatively unusual. I assume there are suspicious circumstances such that the incident location is now being treated as a crime scene?

LNER travel update say the 2100,2133 and an additional 2130 should run albeit late leaving KGX

Thameslink, unsurprisingly, advising passengers not to travel on both the ECML and MML.

Only a 1F33 left London to travel via Cambridge, other LNER services that were stuck south of Hitchin, 1D28, 1D29 and 1S31 all now returning to Kings Cross.
