Currently at a stand on 1N92 just beyond Knebworth. Apparently severe disruption is expected until 1430 due to an incident between Peterborough and Stevenage.

The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Peterborough and Stevenage. As a result of this, trains between Peterborough / Cambridge and Stevenage may be delayed by up to 120 minutes, cancelled or revised.

Customers may use their tickets on Greater Anglia services via any reasonable route.

Advice for Virgin Trains east Coast customers:

Additional information:

The emergency services are attending to an incident and the railway lines are closed north of Hitchin due to a person being hit by a train. Network Rail are working with the emergency services to reopen the railway lines as quickly as possible. Whilst this incident is ongoing, services may be delayed, cancelled or subject to alteration.

Just wondered if there was any more info? All lines blocked - sounds like it may be a fatality sadly although that hasn’t been explicitly stated.

Real Time Trains has it as a fatality - on the page for 1S15 which like many is starting/terminating short at Peterborough.

British Transport Police officers were called to the scene between Hitchin and Arlesey at 11.19am after reports of a person being struck by a train.

A force spokeswoman said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. She added that the death was not currently being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services remain at the scene after the incident, with officers set to make enquiries to identify the man and inform his next of kin.

Network Rail are working with the emergency services to get the railway lines in both directions reopened as quickly as possible.

Rail services are affected between Stevenage and both Peterborough and Cambridge, with Network Rail expecting disruption until at least 2.30pm

Back on the move northbound. Passed the incident train outside hitchin - a VTEC Southbound HST.

1A22 (the 10:15 Leeds - Kings Cross 12:28) is still limping through the queue southbound. Not quite at Stevenage yet, although we have made it south of Biggleswade.

I have never seen such a run on the buffet as when they announced our delay shortly before noon!

I’m on the delayed 1E05, currently forecast to get into KX 195L. Crew have kept us well informed, and there was free water on offer in the buffet carriage (it’s a fair trek from the front of B), no complaining from passengers that I’ve heard, think most people have appropriate sympathy for those involved. Had a nice incidental conversation via Twitter with a traveller heading North too.

Tragically a person lost their life today near Hitchin. We may not know the reasons why, but as someone who suffers from depression, it is a good time to remind people that help will always be there for those that need it. It's time to talk. It's @TimetoChange. ^BG.

Yes totally agree.

Passing the incident earlier and knowing a family somewhere have received the worst possible news (with thoughts also of course to the crew of the incident train) certainly put a dampener on what was otherwise an excellent day out.

All credit to VTEC for confronting head on an issue that isn’t talked about anywhere near enough.
