EC164 Transalpin 3rd November 2023

I've been looking at the timetables for this weekend's Arlberg Pass closure, and have seen on OBB's website that the EC164 travels via Salzburg and then non-stop to Bregenz


Does anyone know if this is correct, and what route it takes Salzburg- Bregenz, and if it runs with the SBB panoramacar & OBB restaurant car?

It runs via Munich - Lindau (on a very slow schedule).

I am not sure about the cars, but do think so, and the ÖBB timetable app says so too. The SBB cars especially need to be cycled back to Switzerland regularly and that seems to be the reason why the train is diverted in the first place.

It runs via Munich and the newly-electrified route through Memmingen. Recent photos online confirm that the normal set is used with said vehicles.

11 cars. I went on it once in 2006 Wien to Salzburg and it was 15-16 cars.

That was a different train, though. Since Railjets were introduced it has run from Graz via Selzthal-Bischofshofen-Zell am See.

And the railjets to Zurich all leave Vienna with two sets (14 cars), although they drop one at some point (but trains are much more frequent now and the 15 cars from before were never really needed cross-border anyway).
